Howdy;

Some expert advice please:

Been struggling with this for a long time.

After i pose my character i add an IDL STUDIO specular light to the scene...but the specular lights position is not correct on her eyes as you can see (please click on image for full screen)  i have no idea why this happens...nor how to solve it...the two little white specular dots should not be at the bottom of her eyes...and i know that this is avoidable because i have seen many renders where those little dots are correctly positioned.

thanks for viewing

God bless.

I do not have IDL STudio, however there has to be a specular based light somewhere in the set.  IDL will only emit diffuse lighting, the key light will contain both diffuse and specular.  You can check this in the material room.

When I have used specular for this in the used as a spot the position of the highlight in the eyes is dependant on just where that spot is placed.  I normally point the spot at the models head and then move the light directly in front of the model adjusting the height of the light to lift the highlight to the upper eye.  I then tend to move the light left or right to move he highlight off centre.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Unless, of course, the specular highlights are baked into the texture.  In which case, no matter where the spot is located, the highlights will still appear in the same place.

Yep that is another possibilty but if baked in I would expect them to be more central, I never use a baked in highlights with the eye so I must admit I didn't think of that possibility.  It does make it more important when placing the lights but I think it looks more natural, assuming of course the model is close enough for the highlights to make a difference.
