Subject: Flinks grass and meadows supersized

3doutlaw ( ) posted Sat, 02 February 2013 at 9:52 AM · edited Tue, 08 October 2024 at 9:28 PM

Anyone try using these products in a "big" fashion?  For example, "Honey I shrunk the kids" size?  Do they look that good close up, or are they more suited to low poly, many objects, with a lot of corners in large size?  Any examples?

Any other products or freebies that look goos in the manner that folks have used?

Quick preview set up of Flinks Meadow preset 9 with a couple of scaled down Anton Kisiel Ants. Ground plane is my HighRes plane prop with slight morph.

I personally would build my own grass blade .obj's and other elements for duplication as flinks meadow props are are a little low res for the project you suggest. I guess it all depends on the amount of work you want to dedicate to your vision.

There are like 50 million vegetation ground cover freebies out there in various formats...

Ps. OT, really need to create a custom texture for the Ant (has a nice cylinder UV) and hairs smart prop... really love using the little dude! http://www.daz3d.com/ant

Not Flink's products in particular, but I have used some Lisa Botanical products from DAZ in extreme close up shots. I find that adding more smoothing to the model (in a modeler) and then paying attention to the materials can make a passable grass, bush or brush.

Thanks Primorge...thats exactly what I was wondering!

I've got a few Lisa's botanical products as well.  I will check them out.  Perhaps snarly's subdivide in Poser stuff would help.

With a good grass texture and high res ground texture, you can get some decent quality up close shots.

Here's an image I did a while back, please ignore the ticked off Smurf :o)

Thank you. I actually put a huge mass of leaves up in the sky to cast the shadow.

For grass? It very well might, tho you may end up with many more polys than you really want. LOL.

I've done close ups with Lisa Botanical items as well and they work very well for that. She delivers high quality items for Poser.

The image shows some of her items close up. The light isn't perfect, but it gives you a good impression.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

I think Snarlygribbly's subdivider is great for this type of application.

Obviously you'd only want to subdivide the more foreground grass props, I guess.

But, if you consider that you are using the grass prop you're thinking of subdividing as a significant / primary feature... you've probably got scope to add a few polys to your scene for such an aspect?

@BionicRooster, that looks real good!

Scale at load.

Of course you can scale it to suit your needs... It has a basic texture map and material that I made and also has a template to create your own textures if you feel so inclined.

Hope it's somewhat useful. I imagine it will be in my free stuff by tomorrow night.

Ummm, Morphing Grass Blade Prop.

heddheld ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2013 at 2:22 AM

could try this

now its NOT the one I was looking for and I haven't tried it yet but looks interesting lol, the one I was looking for is too old I guess(some files are dated '98 opps)

I have mixed feelings about it.

Anyway, you're welcome. I had fun making it.

I think it could use a taper morph.

primorge ( ) posted Tue, 05 February 2013 at 12:49 PM

a taper morph target.

Drop .txt and apply as morph target.
