Subject: Carrara-rigged figure to Poser? tried Collada format

diomede ( ) posted Mon, 25 March 2013 at 7:09 PM · edited Sun, 19 January 2025 at 12:50 AM

I've been doing some tests trying to get a figure modeled, rigged, and skeleton-attached in Carrara into Poser.  No success so far.  Is this a doomed attempt?  I know that if this fails that I can rig the model in Poser or DAZ Studio.  I'm just curious if this would work.

I thought the collada format might be promising because I had heard in one of the youtube tutorials that Smith Micro wanted to be part of Collada as an industry standard.  But so far, if I use "save as" in C8.5beta, in collada format, and then try to open the file in Poser, I just get the un-rigged mesh.

I've tried many combinations of the choices in the collada export menu when using save as from c8.5beta (172).  I use windows 7 if that matters.

Just testing right now, but my notion is that I would generally use my models in Carrara, but every once in a while might want to use the cloth room in Poser.

Unfortunately, rigs in Carrara do not import to Poser. You can play with some of the Collada functions on export, but the bottom line is, to get it done fast and have it work in both Poser and Carrara, you need to rig in Poser.

Bummer. It just seemed like the weightmap system in poser was getting closer to Carrara's.
