Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 01 12:27 am)
I don't see why you couldn't open your C4D model in C4D, pose it, and export as wavefront object. Open Poser, file/import/wavefront object, select your C4D export and import into Poser as a static prop. Of course I imagine that scaling (the model will be HUGE in poser more than likely) and materials in Poser will need attending to, welded or not the file should still have it's material zone assignations, and perhaps it's groups(?)... depends on your setting or prefs upon export from C4D.
_keep in mind that your exported .obj from C4D is going to be a static prop in poser and so will no longer be posable as it was. For vehicles and mechanical objects it's best to have all of the moveable parts as separate objects/children parented to a main object or in a hierarchy and then movement manipulations done via translations and rotations of the comprising objects... Rather than trying such with morphs, which may result in peculiar and unpredictable transformations.
...I would imagine that you would optimally want the model in Poser (if not a rigged figure object) to have it's separate parts (if you can import as such) parented and arranged within the Poser hierarchy tree in a manner similar to C4D's object manager palette. This is all conjecture though as my knowledge of C4D is slight.
you can make morphs in C4D for Poser
in C4D 9 we used rip tide ya had to have every thing unchecked or checked corectly on export.
then on inport ya had to have all of Posers unchecked or checked corectly.
Didn't say what version of C4D or Poser ya using.
ya could google ,youtube for ya versions for tutorails.
if ya have GoZ for C4D & Poser might help.
not saying your alt to but poser rigs might be a possibility.

The quick way is---In C4D go into preferences (Ctrl-E) and change the obj scale to 1000 for import and export, then open poser and export a figure (any adult will do) making sure you have only the figure selected and only select the weld body part seams box.
Now open your van in C4D and import the poser figure, scale the van to match the figure, then delete the figure and save, now delete all the moving parts and export the bodywork, revert back to the van and delete the bodywork and all the moving parts but 1 (lets say left door), repeat this till you have the main van and and all the moving parts as seperate parts then start importing them into poser (make sure you unselect all boxes on import) ---once you have everything in poser you can start parenting and moving the centers so the doors work properley..........Steve
Great tips guys! I was kinda thinking I had to break apart the van in C4D since the one I am looking for is all solid, I.e no separate door/window objects this is what I meant with modifying it in C4D then import it to poser, I would also have to make interriors for the model since it's only a external object I guess, never tried rigging in Poser and I under stand that the C4D rigging can't be exported into Poser ( C4D R14 and Poser Pro 2010)

Hi, I have a question that I can't seem to wrap my head around
I want to use a C4D van ( or just an obj file) of a specific model that is not made for poser, I know I can import one no problem but I like to be able to pose it with open door, movable seats etc and I am not sure how/where to do this, should I do it in C4D or in poser.
Another way is to use AS My Van as an example but it does not pose as I want (with back/side doors open etc, could I mod this one in C4D and re import it to Poser keeping the pose/morphs so I can open the doors ( I tried but it seems to weld the OBJ file and loose the morphs)
If there are a good tutorial on this I would love to see it
Thanks
