Materials in it are procedurals by BB that I tossed there just for this preview, didn't make the textures yet.
Adorable smile is adorable, Dawn!

Quote - Interesting how people are determined to tell me I am wrong, by trying to attribute details to the generalities I was saying.
But the reality is that there is currently no way to make products for both poser and d/s that wont involve significant work..and people should brace themselves that pricing may affect that.
That is really all I was saying.
Really? Please....show me where you were discussing price....
Quote - Afterall...lets face it....making stuff for poser is about 5 times the work as it is for d/s. Wether you like daz or not, you can tell by their software that they come from a content creation background and really do give great tools to make content creation a much more streamlined process.....whereas for poser most of the methods of doing things are hacks that need alot of independantly created apps to even start to do effectively, and even then it often requires a ton of hand editing to get just what you want.
I am really not looking forward to going back to make poser versions.
Rawn
Nice attempt to change the subject when you get called out for errors. Right up there with Vintorix and the newspaper.
But, to stay on topic, I have no intention of changing my pricing structure.....

Quote - > Quote - I dont know enough about DS to say for sure, but I cant see how the textures would need to made differently. Especially for something simple like cloth. recreating the shaders is one thing, but I would expect the lions share of colour, bump, displacement and specular maps would be the same. Perhaps DS may require you to bake in certain things if its shader system cant replicate the same effects as poser or vice versa... I would hope that would be the exception rather than the rule though...
like I said though, I dont know that much about DS yet
One word....satin ;). In Poser can be made entirely with a shader and I'm nearly certain it won't go over to DS. Of course, I know nothing about DS but with two speculars and two reflects and a host of noodles in between it probably won't ;). Not saying that DS can't do satin...very likely can, I'm just pretty certain it doesn't do it like Poser does. LOL.
Laurie
Could you please post an image of the network for a satin and also a final image of the effect in a render?. If I can see it I can try and see if its possible to achieve it in Shader Mixer.
Thanks

In the middle of all this, please keep in mind that Dawn is likely to be used in Carrara, Vue, Lightwave, C4D, modo, Maya, 3DS Max, and a host of other 3D studios. And to those users, the added complications to details surrounding the Poser/DS difference could well make it harder to adapt as an export. Don't sacrifice quality, but keep it as simple as possible for the sake of those who operate outside the duality.
Keeping it simple most times means giving up on using the lovely new tech we have at our disposal - which is quite a waste :(

"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."I can tell you guys in my personal experience with clothing sets containing a number of pieces, it takes me a longer to separate products, and go through beta testing, QA, promo renders and product pages then it does to rig for both, DS and Poser. If I were to try and recover my time, I'd have to charge more to have them separate.
If you get both versions (DS and Poser) in a package, consider it a bonus, rather then something that you would have to pay for extra.
However, since there are differences in production process (pipeline) in making poses, vs add on textures, vs, add on morphs, vs. clothing or whatever else type of content is out there (this is not an all inclusive list, just enough to get the picture), it is likely going to be up to each vendor to give you what is most efficient and least costly with respect to the process they use.

what's yours?
Any new Dawn renders, peeps?
I'm modeling and UV mapping today... so nothing really exciting to see here.

Simplest I could come up with:
The full-realism satin is a bit more work. You have to buy that one. grin
Example:
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Thanks for that...I'm not an expert but lets see if I can come up with something similar.
edit to add: Fresnel blend looks similar to an edge blend brick. I'm wondering if the index of refraction does the same as attenuation? Attenuation appears to increase or decrease the amount of graduation between the two colours.
Hope I'm explaining that properly.
Also can you explain what the alternate diffuse does? I'm wondering if I can achieve the same effect by adding in an additional mix brick...
Guys... please keep this nice. There is no need for fighting among yourselfs. If you have a problem with someone please site mail them to fix the misunderstanding. There is no need to fight in the forum and disrupt a good thread.
Thanks!

Hi, everyone.
I've been following this thread, since the beginning & have been quiet, as I am sure others are doing as well.
Everything started out great & continued in that direction for quite a while. Then, it slowly began to take a turn sideways. At first, communication was constructive. Then it became something else. At first, it was in between the lines. Later, it lacked that subleness. The longer I followed along, the more disheartening it became.
**The thread is about Dawn. A wonderful new character, that is coming out, for both (Daz Studio & Poser, Poser & Daz Studio). **
This is something that is positive for everyone. We don't live in the perfect world. This is however, something that is certainly in that direction. How could it be anything but, something good.

Thanks Laurie, I will have a look at trying to set up something similar in Shader Mixer now that I'm back from grocery shopping. Would much rather have been playing.
Okay...this is what I have so far. Based off the network in your link...I came up with the following. I'm using 8 bricks where I think you had 6 and I'm not sure that I have settings right.
Feedback is welcome in particular if you can suggest solutions in terms of 'the reflection needs more...' or similar.
As I said before I'm not an expert the maths in this type of stuff makes my brain melt out of my ears...; ) so any help is appreciated.
All of these renders have slightly different settings.
I haven't at this point tried to add noise in...I'm trying to get the basic satin right first.
The red one looks like plastic. But the 2nd one looks a bit like taffeta because of the near iridescence (just needs a little bump) and the third is getting a lot more like satin. (specifically like charmeuse). Looking good!
Check out these Bing images of charmeuse. You might need a little bump and more reflection (not more specular but added reflection) -

Thanks for the feedback...I agree about the red. I was think moire taffeta with the second. I think the third is closest but it still needs more work. I'm currently working on adjusting the reflection strength while using a skydome as at the minute it is reflecting way too much of the blue and turning it very green.
Also still playing with a couple of the other sliders on the reflect and refract brick.

Nice post!!! :-)
Everybody's just getting antsy, waiting for Dawn. All the excitement's got to find an outlet. ;-)
I love me some Modo! :-)

Sorry about the small image, it wouldn't let me a upload the larger one.
playing in photoshop is always fun. Interesting effect. Once Hivewire have their forums up and running I'll set up a shader thread over there where we can discuss converting between DS and Poser. I have some really interesting iridescent effects you may like. I was deliberately trying to achieve a similar effect as the poser recipe. I thought that I might have it right but when I changed colours it's looking plasticky again...so back to the drawing board.
