Subject: Saving Object In DS 4.6

Please advise on how to save an object with parented objects that will save with surface material setings, morphs, textures et al in DS format.

I tried loading from poser runtime and the textures were washed out and not as they were in Poser.  Thje morphs worked ok it is just that Studio trashed material settings and rendered horrible straight from Poser.

I corrected the material settings were it looks as it should in Studio and want to save it so it can be loaded back into DS so it looks and renders as it should.

Thanks for any help.  I am slowly learning Studio but can't understand why it is so finiky with anything that works well in Poser.

Hi Pappy, 

It sounds like your trying to create a Scene Subset type file. A prop with other props parented to it?

Generally you would save each object as a .duf file and then create your parented prop and save it as a scene subset/preload file which would load the original prop with multiple objects parented to it. All fully textured.

The other option would be to include a Daz Materials folder with .duf materials that covers multiple objects.

Thank you Razor42.

I tried saving a a Scene .Duf and it reloaded with proper material settings, got a good render and the morphs worked also.

Wasn't sure if this was acceptable for marketplace submission along with Poser runtime.

I will surely take a look at your tutorial.

Generally a scene file isn't ideal for distribution, but will work. One thing to keep in mind is that most save formats need there associated data files when distributing.

I tried searchiing the online DS manual but just got more confused.  Haven't read all your tutorial yet but what I have glanced over answers many of my questions.

Actually, a scene or scene subset should be able to find the original Poser .pp2 or .cr2 files as long as they are installed and not moved within the library. Scene Subset is better than Scene as, when double-clicked, it merges with the current scene while a full scene will replace the current scene (right-clicking will give the Merge option, as will File>Merge, but requiring people to remember or find that option isn't ideal).

Hi RHaseltine,

i have had many objects modeled and textured in poser that worked as is in DS flawlessly.

my last creation in poser had a problem rendering textures properly in DS.  the textures loaded properly but ambient, shininess, etc did no render properly.

**i redid the material settings in DS and that is why I wanted to know how to save in DS so the object couLd be loaded into DS without the customer having to make correction to render textures and bump properly.  **

I appreciate your advice.

Another option is simply to save materials presets for the item, and have users apply those after loading the actual items from the Poser libraries - the end result should be the same, the scene file is neater as it requires only one step but is easily broken by users who rearrange their content.
