It also appears that read threads color marking is gone as well.
So now you really have to scroll, read, and pay attention all at the same time....
It says that there are 1800+ people online right now. I wonder how many of them will look at the forums, and out of them how many will even see this thread in the 5 mile menu.
Some things are easy to explain, other things are not........ <- Store -> <-Freebies->
Quote - WTF? What did they do to the forums???? Okay, an Ignore button and a Report button, that's great! When they get it working right. But are we designing everything now for those on mobile devices? Since I hit the big Five Oh this year, I guess that I am finally too old, as the saying goes. I don't want my computer to act like a mobile phone (which I don't even own one of those things). Microsuck seems to think that we all want our computers to look like mobile devices, hence Windows 8 and 8.1. I guess I'm in a minority who wants a computer to be a computer and web pages to be readable. I hope there is some tweeking to this forum design. But since they never listened to complaints about the too-large headers and footers, I have my doubt. This looks terrible folks!
Agreed. This new version doesn't look good. Wasn't there enough empty wasted space on the last version? Someone thought there should be even more?
Yeah. I'm also fed up of sites turning everything big and blobby to try and make my PC display look like some kind of i-thingy. Bleargh.
I'm sure the Ignore button is all very nice, but really it's quite easy to just ignore someone who's constantly annoying you without the button, y'know ;)
I like it. Better organized in the top part (search, forum, market, etc). Much easier on my creaky old eyes, especially on the 1920 x 1080 monitor that I bought specifically for Poser. (This is a Poser forum, after all.)
Most web content (in FF) requires constant adjustment of size and never fits properly in this monitor. The new forum is both readable and fitted without any adjustment.

I don't know. It's... okay.
To me, it feels like they couldn't decide on "light" or "dark" and so we have both.
Medium to dark grey forums, big white buttons, white borders around the avatars. Dark grey or black button I think would have been more slick looking. IMHO, it's too much of ... this is black on white but this over here is white on grey. It feels disconnected.
I'm not in love in with the line between each forum post either on the main forum page. I think striping would have looked better.
.
Feedback: Too much negative space. Fonts seem disproportionately small because of all the negative space.
My wishlist includes having the "top of forum" link be in the same area that the "Top" link brings you to. As it is, I have always had to scroll down to get to the "top of forum" link

If you go to your 'Forum Options' you'll see that you have the option to enter some CSS to control how the forum looks for you.
Renderosity have given us a new design with some new features and inevitably it won't please everyone - what design would? But they have given us the chance to exert some control over it ourselves. Seems fair enough to me.
This forum used to be full of imaginative, creative people who would rise to any challenge. Wouldn't it be better if we collaborated to:
It's fairly easy to do: in Firefox the Tools/Web developer/Inspector shows you exactly which HTML elements are in effect for any bit of page content, and also which CSS rules govern that element's appearance.
The somewhat melodramatic nature of some posts/rants in this thread is embarrassing. Can't we do something positive rather than just throw our toys out of the pram?
By way of example, the button layout is controlled by the CSS class .btn-small, so if you enter this into your css options they go away:
.btn-small {
visibility: hidden !important;
}

Do you not think that this "maintenance" should be done at "site" level?
What happened to "end user friendly"?
What happened to "ergonomic"?
This is a forum and should put the "end users messages" central.

With Sindows 8(.1) and things like these, we put more of our free spare time in "maintenance" than in productivity. That can not be the normal way of handling sites or softwares.

No, because whatever solution they come up with will please some people and not others. Better that each person can customise it to their own needs and preferences.
I'd rather ask the developers to document the CSS than to change it. Everyone wins then.

Quote - Oooh, I didn't even know that was possible, Snarly!
I will happily spend some time digging through the CSS rules. Perhaps we should build up a little request bin for css snippets?
Well I don't dislike the new forum enough to do it all myself, but I'll gladly help if others want to join in and make it a little project :-)

Honestly, I wouldn't have noticed the difference. With out my spell check I really don't feel comfortable writing too much here.
Whatever they've done with their text editor to cripple spell check which is built into the browser, it's just made it unfeindly enough for me to pass 90% of the time.
I only contributed to this thread out of curiosity about what the changes were.
So... Ignore button that ignores the message rather than the user.
Was that it? :-D

Note: For the humor-impaired, this post is not intended as an insult.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
This has gone about far enough.
I'm just about done listening to people being nasty and mean-spirited. So are other members of the forum who have lodged complaints about this thread being full of vitrol.
(And no... Bagginsbill is NOT who this is directed to... I just happened to wake up and read the thread at this point!)
The new forum roll-out contains several features that users have been asking for... some for about ten years! There has been a lot of time and money invested in it. Somewhere along the way, it would have been nice had someone thanked us for what we have done... which is what the OP was trying to do when she started the thread. However, like threads on all new things the past several years, the nay-sayers immediately took over and began the campaign to beat it to death. I wish my powers of prediction were not as good as they seem to be.
If you have problems with the way the programmers have implemented the new forum software, kindly do as a number of members have done in this thread... DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM and suggest a solution. Snarley has hit the nail on the head... regardless of what we do some people will like it, some will not. The fact that new features are present should indicate that we are listening. We will continue to listen IF people will show a modicum of respect and appreciation along the way.
Being nasty, snide, and mean-spirited (which is par for the course around here, it seems) does nothing other than to create ill-will. Frankly, were I on the coding team, (which I am NOT) I would be inclined to completely ignore the rude and somewhat abusive comments of some of the posters here.
Constructive suggestions are always welcome. A bashing session is not.
Unless you have positive, constructive suggestions, I suggest that you retire from this thread, lest it be locked.
I'm also not open for a discussion of this post. Either post something that will help us solve your perceived problem, or move on. Period.
You got me?
If you don't, I'll be happy to handle things with official repremands via sitemail. Works great for me either way.
@bagginsbill...
Ewwwww.... You're in truble.

Okay, I've fiddled with the CSS a bit and gotten the forum to where it's more comfortable for me.

This forum used to be full of imaginative, creative people who would rise to any challenge. Wouldn't it be better if we collaborated to:
- calmly and rationally identify the main issues that are bothering people
- Identify the CSS rules that apply to those issues
- Build a small library of CSS snippets that people can copy/paste into their options to fix the bits they don't like
It's fairly easy to do: in Firefox the Tools/Web developer/Inspector shows you exactly which HTML elements are in effect for any bit of page content, and also which CSS rules govern that element's appearance.
Gee, it's more fun to argue.
I went to the options page and below the 'My Style' box is says "To view the default CSS setup of the forums, click the link below the text field." However, I don't see any link; where should I be looking?
PS; the quotes are no longer automatically italicized; I did this one by hand...

THIS is the sort of post that HELPS! Thanks, Hana!
On the left, the buttons "Homepage" and "Stats" and "Back to Top", being arranged vertically, are adding to the space waste. Does any CSS control that?
Note also that the Stats button links to the same as Homepage, making it pointless.
IMO, even if it linked to Stats, I still don't see why anybody wants that in every forum post. Anybody know how to get rid of all three buttons?

Another example of the kind of post that HELPS!
I don't know about the CSS to hide the buttons, but Stats and Homepage link to different pages for me. I'm running chrome on a desktop.
The Homepage and the Back to Top have different classes, so their positioning can be played around with in CSS. The Stats button, however, does not have a class of its own, so it cannot be moved or made invisible without moving or making invisible all the other white buttons. Let me play with it for a moment and see what I can do.

That's nice. I made the button text 12 pt as 8 pt was to small for my old eyes. Thanx!
Is there a way to tweak the margins, as there is still a lot of blank empty space...

Only on your own posts as far as I can tell. Try hovering over stats and homepage of somebody else - same URL.

I'm going to try pasting the 3-buttons HTML so you can see that the links are the same.

YA BABY! Thanks!
Edit:
But guess what - the space they occupy is still consumed. So - not quite what I was after.

Hmm It seems I have lost the ability to post from My Android tablet
Oh well

Not a show stopper , but Im gald it not just my particular device/android build.
Cheers
Have made some changes to the snippets. This version uses up more real estate toward the left side of the screen and reduces the padding on the right side of the forum.
Since the left positioning doesn't seem to work, I can't line the buttons up on one row like I wanted to do. I need to figure out why it's being wacky before I can fix that.

Hm. Seems to be a bug at Rendo.
When the custom CSS is accessed the text 'left' is converted to 'lft' and 'right' is converted to 'rgt'
This CSS should produce the effect shown in the attached pic, but it doesn't
.btn-mini {
font-size: 0pt !important;
height: 25px !important;
float: left !important;
}

The Wisdom of bagginsbill:
"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."The pagination buttons all look alike and must be used because there is no button equivalent to "previous" or "next" page. Since I have to click on whichever is next, this is difficult since they all look alike. I would expect the current page to be bold or something visually obvious.
However - looking at the HTML, there's nothing we can grab onto for the current page to be able to change the CSS for it.
I'm on Page 4 here but nothing tells me that visually.
Would be nice if the current page button had a different class so it could be referenced in the style sheet.

.announcement {
height:1px !important;
visibility: hidden !important;
padding:0px !important;
margin: 0px !important;
border: 0px !important;
}
This removes the announcement between the Top and the row of navigation buttons that includes the "top of forum" button.
.pagination {
margin: 2px 0 !important;
}
h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 {
margin: 2px 0 !important;
}
These reduce the negative space up in the top portion.
