Subject: Michael 6 for Genesis 02 Male has arrived!

RAMWorks ( ) posted Tue, 19 November 2013 at 1:49 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 8:02 AM

Just popped into the store and there are a bunch of bundles and items for Michael 6!

Pro Bundle here:
http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/michael-6-pro-bundle
Gens or "Toast" is listed but not for the Starter Bundle or Michael 6 stand alone

Starter Bundle here:
http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/michael-6-starter-bundle

Michael 6 here:
http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/michael-6

I decided on the Pro Bundle, “Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male” by Slosh and “Michael 4 Skins Auto Converter For Genesis 2 Male(s)” by DraagonStorm

Looking forward to Jepe’s, Male-M3dia and Cake One’s offerings as well as most of the rest of the offerings.  Trust me I like just about everything.

The Pro Bundle with the other two packs comes to 102 and with only a 10% with my lack of participation these past couple of months it’s still a good enough deal for me.  My credit card will be smoking hot but it’s OK.  So is Michael 6!

I'm with vitachick, I've already got too many gigabytes of characters.  Instead of developing a whole new line of meshes, why doesn't someone create a line of reasonably priced male textures for the M4 and Genesis Male?  You can get some amazing V4 textures for incredibly low prices, but not M4/Genesis Male.

Just saying, it can often take longer to build quality textures than it does to build a quality outfit, even with using a program like ZBrush.

One of the reasons V4 texture/character sets are so cheap is because there's so many of them available. The more selection of something there is, the more competition, so that affects pricing too. That's just the nature of retail.

Plus there are more "parts" to texture on M4 than there are on V4, more transparency maps to make function properly, and more options required - body hair, no body hair, facial hair, no facial hair, etc.

Then factor in lower sales volume for male content than female content, which means the artist is doing at least half again as much work, for a fraction of the sales.

So, what would be your idea of a reasonably priced texture set for M4? Or any male for that matter?

AmbientShade, I must admit I had not taken into account market saturation and end user costs.  You are quite right to take me to task on this.  I had hoped that there would be at least some equity in the number of textures available.  It's always easy to find a quality female texture, but it is more difficult, IMHO, to find the male ones.

As far as pricing goes, I would consider around US$10.00 a good mid-range figure.  There are some outstanding male textures out there for $17-$20, and this places them outside my budget range.

Thank you for reminding, and informing, myself and others who have at one time or another wondered about this.  It's always great to have someone on the forums who has that "been there/done that" information to share.

I'm not that impressed with what's on offer. M6 looks a little young in the face and the lack of darker skins is noted. I don't really fancy buying two of everything so I'll stick with Gen 5, haven't even used half of it!

The G2M base figure is free with some essential products for those who are curious. It'll give you an idea of how this new figure bends and moves.

As always the choice is yours this is just an option for those who are interested in a latest generation Male Figure.

If you'd prefer sticking with G5, G4 or even G3 for that matter its purely up to you.

But there is no denying M6 is here.

The evolutionary tree seems to be dividing at ever shortening intervals, with the recent additions of the Dawn figure and G2F and G2M, making it harder and more expen$ive to stay up to date. If your someone that needs to have everything.

Compatibility between figure bases is also an issue, with the Genesis figure making a leap forward uniting both sides of the warddrobe with Unisex clothing. Which we see once again divided into the genders with G2F and G2M giving more gender focused clothing shapes.

What we have at the end of the day is choice and to me thats a good thing. If you love the look of M6 then jump in. If you want to see how things play out for a while, thats fine to. If M4 still fits your requirement list thats okay, no reason to change.

For me the improvements in the base mesh, rigging and surface/skin performance, plus the expectation of HD morphs and characters(similar to G2F).  Made M6 well worth it and long awaited upgrade to the male figure range.

I don't see anyone denying it that M6 is here. If you like him and have money to burn then good luck to you. I have a limited income and this is meant to be a hobby - so I don't need the newest and the shiniest. I don't have the money or inclination to rebuy two of everything.

Agree.. As a hobbyist all the extras aren't necessary.

Depends on how you view your hobby.

I have friends that will get the newest video card so they can play the latest video games, some that will spend $600 to upgrade their $200 RC Plane so it can handle better.

Me I'm always looking for a better looking and performing male character. This one bends much better (especially without the 'exploding butt' Genesis 1 had) and I'm able to morph it into better looking guys, so it's worth the investment to me.

As I said "Choice" :)

Heres another render featuring both G2M and G2F using lots of M4, V4 and Genesis Clothing. Some clothing took a little tweaking some took a lot and some took none at all.

Agreed.

G2M is a really good looking figure, and he's free so there's no reason to not download and try him out. It would take all of 10 minutes or less, and costs nothing. He's not perfect, but so far he's the best male figure released IMO.

I never got M5 (funds and all that) so I can't really compare him to M5. I think the faces are very similar, and he looks like he's built a lot like D5, but since I don't have him either I can't really compare those.

But he's leaps and bounds better than M4. Really no comarison there at all. I think his pecks could have been worked better, but that's definitely not a deal breaker. It can be fixed with a few adjustment morphs in ZB.

I haven't invested in M6 yet. I want to but I have to watch every penny I spend. I did get the G2M face and body morphs bundle. I want the whole package, but I can't afford it right now, so I don't want to buy the base M6 just to have to re-buy him again when I can get all his parts. That does piss me off how they set up the pricing for that but whatever.

Regardless, it's inspired me to finally learn DS, which isn't difficult to begin with. I'm working on building a Celtic/Viking style set for G2M. If all goes well, I'll adapt it to M4 and Gen1 once its finished. Overall the G2M has got me coming up with all kinds of new ideas for add-ons.

I actually will look into purchasing M6, his muscle mass looks good, and he does not have the giraffe neck look when it comes to his head to collarbone ratio that M5 had.

Not really sure why Daz decided on the separate figure set up once again after all the boasting about Genesis and it's ultimate uses but I guess we roll with the punches.V6 isn't something I want, so I will probably be sticking with Genesis/V3/V4 for my girls.  I downloaded G2 male but have not used it yet, now at Share CG Sickleyield has converted DieTrying's 182 morphs for V4 for the G2 male so I am anxious to see how it all works.

Anyways it is finally nice to have a figure morph set from Daz that I am honestly really excited to get my hands on since Genesis came out.
