Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
I'm not really sure what you're asking here...
You want realistic eyes, then you say the ones you liked had the reflections painted in. That is far less than realistic.
You also don't mention what version of Poser you are using.
A bit more info and any number of us might be able to make some meaningful recommendations.
As mentioned above, painted reflections aren't realistic.
If you're looking for realistic textures for Gen4 eyes, PDEyes and some of Rebelmommy's eye sets are a good place to start. Some of the elite textures at DAZ have nice eyes. There's a character at RDNA called Narre that has nice eyes. All of MEC4D's characters have nice eyes; Eli's are my favorite.
If, however, you really are looking for textures with painted reflections for whatever reason, I guess I'd recommend Thorne. Her characters have such pretty eyes; I wish she'd stop painting reflections on them. :(
Unfortunately, the OP was not specific about which model and only referenced a Miki 2 character. I use DAZ's Elite Eyelights for Michael 4 & Vicky 4 because the eye textures can be added without baked in reflections. In addition, the white of the eyes can also be changed from normal to bloodshot in a single click. The results speak for themselves.
I use V4 and M4 extensively so i can only really comment on eyes for those figures. When I buy a character almost the first texture I change is the eyes as it seems very difficult to find a character where the reflections are not burnt it.
In addition to those already noted here, that I have used, one of my favorite collections is SG Realeyes by Surreality. It has a number of options for the build up of the eyes and all its parts. They are still available at Daz for the same price I paid in 2011, just be sure to search for Realeyes, with no space as the search does not find them if there is a space.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Yes, I had forgotten about that set but can second it: Surreality's Realeyes are very nice.
i may get shot down here, but heres my opinion, ive got loads of characters and the eye maps that come with them, and some have fantastic eyes, but sometimes when ive used a different characters eyes with a different characters skin, sometimes it just doesnt look good at all
So the conclusion i have come to is you just need to look for sets that YOU find pleasing, which we cant really help with, but also be aware that just using one set of eye mats doesnt work for ALL figures
What seems to have happened with me is that ive collected a few decent figures over the years and have stuck with them, maybe altering the maps in photoshop for different looks as i need them
Hope this helps

I would agree that, with some characters, the eyes do need some work to make them look half way real and suited to the character. One of the advantages of the SG Real eyes is that there are so many options and textures for the different parts of the eyes it is reletively easy to fine tune them to any given character providing they are based on 4th generation figures.

Take into account, material shaders make or break the 'realism' in eye textures. If you see a tremendous amount of variability between characters, look into the advanced Material Room and compare nodes. Older characters might not render correctly under the latest Poser versions; vendors use different node techniques.
IMO, find a shader node arrangement that works well and apply it to your characters. Don't hardwire yourselves to vendor shader nodes if they don't work your particular Poser version. Although I use the DAZ Elite Eyelight textures, I always apply Snarley's EZSkin to improve the renders.
in all honesty i havent found ANY eye kits for poser that are any good in my opinion, the only ones that are any good are from characters that ive bought and luckily some have been good. i dont think its the iris that seems to be the problem, more how the material is setup for the whites of the eye, but i dont do many renders in poser i tend to use cinema 4d to alter the materials further.

If the texture is good, the texture is good, regardless the character. Your character may look a little strange at first if you're using color combinations that are relatively rare (for example, blue eyes with dark skin or brown eyes with blond hair--but, while rare, these things do happen in real life), but that's a matter of choice, not texture quality. The problem is usually in the shaders. I've found EZSkin gives generally good results, but in certain setups the reflections may be too intense--but that can be fixed by either modifying your render environment or modifying the shader nodes.
i think that the vendors who produce eye sets should at least provide the lighting setup used in the promo images as you may be right, but sometimes i think its also the contrast between the skin and the eyes that count.
I remember sometimes using different eye maps with different skin maps the eyes sometimes seem positively muddy or blazing bright white :-) might be good if i was rendering a goa'uld from stargate but not much use for abnything else haha

One can use the BB Eye with any figure; turn off visibility of the orginal eyes, position (and scale if necessary) and parent to the original eye. It is mapped for Antonia's eye textures...

I tried using that for a while but converting textures every time I needed one became a pain in the derriere. I wish he'd create a version mapped to Gen4 eyes. :(
I just happened across these free eye textures from Laurie Allen whislst looking for something else...

I'm looking and there's absolutely non free. All the free ones are anime eyes or some kind of weird eyes.
The only good eyes that i remember are MIki 2 Kyon's eyes. But that character is not sold anymore. Those eyes had the reflections painted on them. they were cool.
Is there at least a character i can buy that has great eye textures? ANd i mean realistic.
