For simplicity, assume I want to create a taur.

The following steps are needed:

1a - Chopping the upper half from an existing figure

1b - Chopping the lower half from an existing figure

2 - Reconnecting/parenting

3 - Getting a decent joint of the composed figure.

Surely there are detailed tutorials (and I mean step by step :-) ) floating around the Net? 1a/b isn't the problem, I meanwhile mercylessly frell around in the CR2 :-) But I never ever used the grouping tool for 2 yet, and what do I have to know on Weld and Taper for point 3?

I would check the Centaur and Stuff thread over at DAZ.  There used to be a nice tutorial by Crescent on popping on a different head, but the site has gone away, and the WayBack macnine doesn't seem to have the pictures...

There are two ways.

  1. Hack the geometry and adjust the character rigging to make a composite figure.

  2. Hide parts of two figures and fix the joint area.  For a still picture this option is easiest with a transparency map and some postwork.

Hide the bottom half of the top figure.
Hide the top half of the bottom figure.
Position and scale for best fit.
Parent top to the bottom, (or bottom to the top).
Hide seam with a belt.

That may sound simplistic but it is just that, a very simple solution. Consider what you are trying to do, the amount of work involved and the end result. If a belt or some other accessory is all that is needed to save you several days work then it may be something to consider.

Plus you'll not have to redo all your morphs.
