Hi, I know that there is a big jump from 6 to 10 and I have some questions. I had no problem bringing my Poser 6 files to the library....but with Poser 10 I find that the Runtime is located in my libraries/documents/poser10 content folder........where do I unzip my files to?I see 2 different runtimes....one in the document folder and one in the download folder....very confusing....also...in Poser 6....C:Program Files (x86)e frontierPoser 6RuntimePythonposerScripts...is where I kept some .pz3 files in...such as V4(loaded)....can I bring those into Poser 10....I tried it today by just going to Open and browsing to the folder.........and when saving in Poser 10 where do you save it to...another question....sorry so many....I need to learn how to use the doc. window better in pose..because everything comes in HUGE...lol...does anyone save their Poser content on a slave drive and bring it in from there...I have a 2T My Book....that I know is large enough to do it....sorry again for sooo many questions...

Thank you so much,

Carol(yakchat)

You fail to mention which operating system you are using.  If you are running Vista, Win7/8, the correct runtime to use will be my libraries/documents/poser10.  In those aforementioned OS's, User Access Control (UAC) will interfere with any content placed into Program Files folder.  Better still, you should organize your content and create external runtimes for each category or figure you own.  These external runtimes can be located anywhere as long as they are not placed into Program Files.

PZ3's are scene files; those can be placed anywhere.  I find it strange that you are placing them into a Python Script folder.

Regardless of OS I would move the P6 runtime contents (Excluding the Scripts folder) into a folder on the slave labeled say Poser 6 then create as many other folders you want to use to sort all that Poser content into and go to town adding them in Poser 10. Scripts always belong in the C:programs directories runtimes

I'v been running seperate Runtime since PoserPro 4.

I would extract every item into it's own Runtime.

When Poser5 supported multiple runtimes, I could just add the ones I wanted.

Because later OSes (Vista, Win7, Win8) have User Account Control which -as a malware protection feature- blocks programs from changing/adding things to program files, Poser now puts the library in shared documents.  There should be a folder documents:Poser 10 content:downloads:runtime where you put new purchased stuff.

If you're going to stop using P6, then move your old library out of program files, and add it as an additional library to P10.  Mine is on a second hard drive;  P10 will happily reference that.

If you want to retain P6, then just point P10 to that P6 library in order to add it, but bear in mind that Win7 won't let you add things to that library (from either P6 or P10).  If you do, the new stuff will actually go into a virtual store folder of compatibility files.  If you look in the P6 runtime and your newly-saved item is missing, look near the top of the Windows Explorer folder window for this little compatibility files icon;  If you see it, that means that some files from this folder have been sent to the virtual store.

UAC.

That will be in users:{your account username}:AppData:local:VirtualStore.  You can click on the icon to get there, and manually move stuff into the old P6 library from here.

oh geez....I had my Poser 6 Runtime....just in a "Runtime Folder" on my slave...and added it to my Poser 10 library...in the way you are supposed to from inside Poser 10...now Poser 10 is freezing up...when I click on that folder(which has no name on it)...how do I remove it from the library in Poser10....when I brought the original Poser 6 Runtime in from Poser 6...all was fine...

I was hoping to take Poser6 off my puter...but I don't think you can do that(or can u)because it is browsing to that part of Poser 6 for the library.....and as far as putting Poser 6 on my slave....doesnt work....prob because it is a slave and not a drive that can be formated I guess...holds 2T.....also again...am working on Win7

Well, I don't know what went wrong there.  Does anyone else?  If so, lend a hand here.

See if there is a folder icon with a subtraction sign ("-") at the bottom of the library when you select that problem library folder.  If so, use that to remove that library from the P10 collection.  Then re-add it.

I don't know the particulars of your "slave drive", but in general terms, yes, you can reference a remote library, such as one on a network aethernet drive or on a USB external hard drive, a (big honkin') flash drive, or an express card (great option for laptops).

express card (flash memory with SATA connection),  look for a slot on the right side of your laptop, near the front edge: express card.

To delete a runtime from Poser, you need to select the runtime which will make the delete icon appear as illustrated (ignore the circle; this was used for another post).  However, since Poser 6 is causing issues, you may need to delete the P6 entry from the LibraryPref.xml.
