I tried to search and see if this was covered, but most of the posts that turned up were just pointing it out.

How can I fix texture stretching? I am using Wings 3D and UVMapper classic, so I don't have a huge load of flexible options.

I am experimenting with making slinky unmentionables. I was happy with it until I saw this.

 

Nudity tagged, just to cover the bases.

You are going to be limited by the software that you are using. It looks like you are planar mapping, try cylindrical in the Y axis with no caps.

Or if you would like to send me the OBJ file I'll be happy to UV map it for you in UV Layout Pro. Will only take a couple of minutes.

I'll give your suggestion a shot and see what happens. I may look into buying a good program later this year.

You could try Roadkill

It is a free UVmapping tool that can unfold a mesh to create a UV map with minimal distortion.

I use Blender to do most of my UV mapping.

It is free, but has a steep learning curve to learn he whole program.

The UV part of it requires that you know some of the modeling options to add seams, but it is not that hard to learn.

I've just acquired 3dCoat. It's UV mapping is amazingly easy and results are incredible. I modeled a whole figure and with 3dCoat's UV tools I had seams marked and a good quality map made in a matter of a few minutes with no stretching. It's a bit expensive, but it does do a whole lot more then UV maps. :)

+1 for 3dCoat. It's the best in the industry outside of Mari.  The autounwrap is surprisingly fast and accurate, with ZERO texture stetching.


Tools :  3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender v2.74

System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB GPU.

The new version of 3dCoat has a button you push that automatically evens out your UVs. It's great.

Well, as it turns out, Phil's suggestion did the trick.

Now I need to get the textures right and I will release this one.

I downloaded Roadkill. I've heard it mentioned before, but I haven't tried it yet. I am going to read through the manual before I do anything with it.
