Probably been asked a thousand times before.

Can somebody please explain why my render has distorted everything - the props, table etc have produced bulbous surfaces etc and the figure has produced minor poke through not present in the preview

Thanks for any advice

Smooth Polygons.
You enabled "Smooth Polygons" in the render settings.

This works in combination witht the crease angle that you can set in each group in the groups properties.

Disable Smooth Polygons in the renders ettings.

Or uncheck the option "Smooth polygons" in the groups that you do not want smoothed.

I can be wrong but you may want to turn off Smoothing on the tables and props .  That way you will not get the "Poser Bloat" that you  see there.  That will allow you to use smoothing in the render settings.  Just choose the prop, click on Properties and uncheck "Smooth polygons". I hope it's help you

ps.vilters was more fast ...
