Subject: Subsurface Scattering in Poser Pro 2014 SR4

anupaum ( ) posted Sat, 23 August 2014 at 11:41 AM · edited Fri, 17 January 2025 at 6:40 PM

I'm not sure I like the update. Sometimes simply selecting a body part results in a "pull / translate" command. But what's the deal with subsurface scattering? It used to be a separate pass, but now it's gone. Does anyone know why?

I'm on SR4 (pro2014 Win7-64), just rendered Andy2 for testing this and it's still all there. In Render Setting and in render passes.

The pass is there when it's checked in Render Settings AND there is a subsurface skin / scatter / custom_scatter node somewhere in any material definition, even when it's not connected.

If not checked - no pass.
If no relevant node around anywhere - no pass.

Sorry.

I have the game version which I believe is based on SR 4 and the pre calcualting subsurface scattering is still there.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Ack! The box was unchecked because the update reverted my render settings to stock . . .

Thank you for pointing out my mistake. I'm grateful.

yeah, we all learn from (our) mistakes.

So, in order to stay ahead, I only have to make more of them, and faster. That's where high-end gear comes in handy 🆒. And new releases help too :cursing:. And forum threads .

Mistakes? What are mistakes. I thought I made a mistake once, but I was wrong.
