"What 3D Program Should I buy?" Not one person here can really tell you what's best for you, as everyone has their own taste in workflow. Try the demo or learning edition of the program you're interested in, this is the only way to find out which programs you like.
Also glad to see you back, Lux. I like the mesh but seem to be in disagreement with the rest of the internet in that I don't like the texturing or at least the colour map. I think it needs more shading variance.
Anyway happy thanksgiving to those across the water
Where I come from, we like our birds with darker skin on the barbie. Can't say I've seen anyone cook one this perfect, but I think it's possible, and the color looks real good. I would have liked to see some darker areas on the top and bottom, and then some on the wings too, but looking at "roasted turkey" on google turned up some images that suggest Lux isn't too far from the mark here. This photo suggests Lux's bird would be considered cooked to near perfection. This is raw to me!
Thanks, guys. I put a lot of work into the texture painting, but I agree there's always some room for improvement. Nothing is ever perfect.

I like the conservative poly count of the model, and sensible edge flow. The texturing actually looks fine to me. I see areas in your albedo map which could use extra detail, but the unwrap appears above average. I don't see any pixel smearing caused by stetched UV's, and there's no visible seams. Overall, a fine model.

Well, I don't know how anyone can criticize this amazing model. The fact you gave this for free is astounding to me! I've looked around at marketplace and paid models which were only half as realistic and well done as this! Aside from the human form, food might be the hardest thing to model and texture properly, and this is done to an amazing high level. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone in US! To celebrate, I created a roasted turkey replica. It's low poly, driven by high res texture maps, and tangent normal map, for photo-realistic PBR in most modern render engines. This low-polygon model consists of 2,384 polygons and 4,786 vertices. The topology is 100% quads. I carefully unwrapped the model in 3D Coat, where I also hand painted all of the necessary texture maps: color (diffuse), specular (reflection), glossy (blurry reflection), bump, and normal map channels at 4048x4048 pixel resolution.
I'm providing the model for free download. It should become available in the Freestuff area here soon, but can be downloaded now at my DA page, Turbosquid, or ShareCG.com in .max or .obj file formats. All maps are included. The preview renders were done with Corona engine. No post processing was done on any of the renders. These were color adjusted directly in the render engine.
