Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 25 9:50 pm)
I can recommend the video tuts, on this site (just go Tutorials > Premium Tutorials) as well as from Smith Micro. The latter are on youtube as well.

Usually I'm wrong. But to be effective and efficient, I don't need to be correct or accurate.
visit www.aRtBeeWeb.nl (works) or Missing Manuals (tutorials & reviews) - both need an update though
I'm guessing that "work folders" could go anywhere you store data; they're not part of the program files nor the content library. My workstations always have at least one secondary hard drive which has main folders for software downloads, content downloads, 3D projects, and my purchased & homemade Poser content library. Within the 3D projects folder, I have a folder for every modeling/render project. That folder will have modeling files, subfolders for geometries (raw, and UV mapped), material image files, Poser scene files.
If you have just one hard drive, you can make a master 3D projects folder in My Documents.
As for alternative beginner level tuts, my first thought would be Dr Geep. Hopefully, like Beetlejuice, he'll appear in this thread since I mentioned his name. Ah, and aRtBee has already shown up. :) Thank you, aRtBee.

Hi Seachnasaigh and Drafter69,
Yes, the Work Folders can go wherever you want them to be. You only need to be able to get into them and pull the content out to match the lessons. Post back if you have any more questions. I'm the author of those Infinite Skills tutorials as well as the tutorials in the Premium section here.

Mark
I've read computer software manuals since the mid 90's ... and the supplemental 3rd party books as well ... and frankly one of the best of all of these is the Poser manual. If you go through it (them) you can truly get a good solid handle on the program. Also, any questions ... come here, we'll clarify anything you need here. :)

Well, I'm no fan of the Poser manuals, but I will say that aRtBee's stuff is some of the best I've seen on any technical topic. There's even a thread from a few years back where I talk about what I like about aRtBee's approach to technical writing. For the record, I've been reading - or I should say dealing with - manuals since the 80's and have written a few myself.
Be aware that there is a significant learning curve for Poser, so brace yourself, but if I could figure it out you can too. Actually there are still entire rooms in Poser that I never even enter like the Face and Setup rooms.

I am a total beginner to Poser and would like to learn how to use the program with confidence. I purchased the Infinite Skills DVD but quickly discovered that it comes with no documentation. The movies on the disc are well done BUT there is no information to explain what to do with the "work folders" or how to use them. Very disappointed as I was under the impression that the program was for total beginners. Is there any other books or teaching software that can be recommended? Thanks
Ron
