Blender F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 24 8:44 pm)
Downloaded! Thanks, Lobo!
I do something similar, and because I use Blender to make content for Poser, I've usually got a folder to save Wavefront Objects to called OBJs. Also, in the .blend itself, I save the last layer (20?) for a copy of the mesh (to scale down by .1 for export). I'm sure there's a better way: hopefully the team working on Gooseberry are going to come up with something clever -- yet not too convoluted -- that will manage everything easily.

Glad you got it I came across a video some months ago about organizing your work flow with Blender and seem like in Maya when you are starting a new project it creates a bunch of folders for you so you can save your references images and textures and so forth and since I personally have one to many I save stuff to it was sort of scatter all over my drives. This forces me to put all things related to a project I might be working on in one place and has helped me get a bit better organized.

note ~ if your working on a "bigger" project (not worth it if your making a prop for poser ) but a forest ;-) lol
pack all textures into blend when you finish a session ..... its does make a HUGE blend!!! you will have dup tex's but you'll never get that awful pink lol
ps I find packing really useful but I have lots of textures on dvds etc saves me lots of time in the long run, if you have huge megaterrabyte drives where nothing gets moved about lol this is maybe pointless for you
Speaking of managing stuff in a pipeline fashion... I saw in 2.74 notes something about saving previews for some assets in a .blend file. I'm assuming in the future we'll be able to see those images when browsing with the append/link option. Much better than only being able to go off of names as it is now. (Hopefully we'll even be able to add text descriptors too.) Which means you can make .blend files more easily usable as asset libraries if you plan in advance.

Really this is a simple folder structure that I made for myself to help stay more organized when starting Blender projects and though maybe others might like to try it or add to it to make their own work flow easier.
