Subject: Poser bug or did i change a setting?

So i'm going to try to describe this since i don't think a screenshot will be much help.

Say you're looking at victoria from the front, and she has one arm behind her back (the camera can't see it).  it used to be i could still easily select her arm because a red outline of the forearm would show through her body.

Somehow that has been turned off, now to select that same arm in the same situation i have to -guess- where the mouse will grab her forearm, and just attempt to move it, and see if i guessed correctly when i clicked.

The only limbs poser will highlight in red for selection are the ones directly visible to the camera.

This sucks lol.  Anyone know if i can fix this?

dunno if this helps but r clicking in the area brings up a list of whats under the mouse can be a bit hit or miss

just checked and I still get the outline but its white unless I select it

Yeah I don't even get a white outline anymore.  If the camera can't see it she's completetly blocked.  Which means I always have to bring the camera close to the limb I want to select which is a huge pain :(

Posers selection of body parts via mouse is terribly wonky (It always has been) not to mention lag is the worst of any 3d app I've ever used (regardless of how powerful your computer is or the relative complexity of the scene your working on, although these things contribute). For anything other than posing I try to use the heirarchy, which I always keep open, for selection. Strong emphasis on the word try. I personally have become so used to these annoyances that I hardly even notice anymore, I suspect this is the case with most who've used Poser for a while. Have you tried using bounding box preview to see if there's any difference? Although I don't think this would be an acceptable solution. Anyway, I'm able to select body parts via mouse through obscuring body parts in my Poser, so...

...You might try restoring Poser to factory default in prefs to see if this makes any difference.

Or... really going out on a limb on this one, switching your display engine setting in preview render settings.

I have to go the right click route most of the time with PP2014...

I'm not experiencing this problem. I have M4 hidden behind a door and I still get all his bodypart outlines in white by passing my mouse over him through the door. I'm using PP2014 game dev on win7 64-bit.

The recommended approach for selecting is to select body parts via the hierarchy menu, or via the 2nd dropdown menu above the scene, as selecting directly with the mouse can nudge other parts of the figure by minuscule amounts that might not be desirable.

Thanks for the info I'll see if I can figure it out.  I'm pretty ninja at selecting and posing since I've been using this software for 15 years, but from the responses I see that it shouldn't be like this :(

it's a lot faster for me to just click in scene than hierarchy or dropdown, so I'll try restoring and see if that fixes it.

Sometimes, this happens because of certain scripted, dynamic, morphs being applied. IIRC, there's an M4 (can be used with V4, too) morph that requires injections and special channels that can cause weird issues with selection. (The one that injects the K4 figure into M4 and you can dial an "age." Can't remember which one.) If you have complicated morphs/injections installed, these could be the problem, especially if you don't experience it with other figures. If you have this problem and other issues with V4/M4 specifically, you may wish to reinstall those figures and to reinitialize them, just in case.

Another issue, just a guess, that could happen is that you have an issue with OpenGL compatibility. Try running the Pose Room in the secondary driver. (Accessed in the Display menu.) If you continue to have issues, try updating your video drivers.
