Subject: Pelvic Thrust

Hi guys

I am relatively new to Poser, but a bit of an old hand at Daz 3D. I am trying to create an animation to use in Second Life based on a Michael Jackson movement. It is mostly basic leg and arm movement on a fixed point, so in that respect relatively easy to achieve. However, there is the typical Jackson 'pelvic / hip thrust' where his hips pitch up and back to origin whilst the rest of the body remains, to all intents and purposes, static.

I have read many threads on 'Locking' objects, but this does not seem to work. If I lock the Abdomen and Right and left Thighs and pitch the hips, the whole if the upper body rotates, not the effect I desire.

In Daz Studio, Pinning the Rotation and Translation of appropriate body parts, to all intents and purposes locks them and prevents this unwanted upper body rotation. There is however a very annoying 'twitch' in the lower body (caused by IK I suspect). I have heard that Poser creates smoother animations and hence better BVH's for Second Life

Please can anybody point me in the right direction as to how to rectify my problem in Poser 11.

I would like to use BVH's created by both Poser and Daz 3D side by side in sl to see how they compare

I am using the official SL avatars as provided by Linden Labs, Poser 11.

Many Thanks in anticipation ...

This isn't a newbie questions, so I'm going to move your thread to the main poser forum where I hope you will get more information!!! Best of luck to you!!!

I maybe mistaken, but isn't Second Life literally banned by many vendors and sites for copyright violations? I would check the validity of this allegation before proceeding with your project. If this remains to be true, there will be a reluctance to help from any of the members here.

As long as he is making the animation himself and not using vendor resources, it's not a problem.

Hi again

just for clarity - my project is completely home grown and uses only resources that I have created or (as in the case of the meshes) acquired from legitimate sources. I have used no animations created by others. The whole purpose of buying Poser was to enable me to create my own animations and upload for use in my own simulation. So please guys, whilst my interests in SecondLife seem to have caused a bit of a stir, please do not relegate me to the sin bin and restrict the help that a form such as this can offer. Many hours of reading and Googling have not sorted my problem.

I look most respectfully to the wealth of knowledge that can be found in a forum such as this.

I hope that this clarifies my need for information and that I am no longer heading for a seat on the naughty step ;)

Many thanks in anticipation ...

A shame that the first reply to a technical question is about copyright; a testimony to our Times, I guess. 😬

I don't know if the SL avatars have Inverse Kinematics, and I don't have time but look right now, but here is an article about setting IK chains up in Poser...

The MJ 'thrust" I remember has him rise up on his toes. That means EVERYTHING on his body MUST move, so IK probably won't help anyway. Assuming his feet are close together, I'd do 1 static pose in the standing position, save it, zero the figure, then do a second pose in the thrust position, save that, and just do a 5 frame animation with your figure at pose 1 for frame 1, pose 2 for frame 5, and let Poser do the tweening. You only really need to ensure the feet are in the right positions, but that can easily be tweaked. This will work for all his moves, including the thrust and hat grab. Just make sure the feet are touching the ground and not sliding too far.

This is probably a bit late now but in anyone else comes upon this thread, it might help This is possible, and works to some extent, I have used it myself. Create a new IK chain Chest to hip i.e.. Chest Abdomen Hip(goal) Turn off IK to hands, (otherwise sometimes odd effects.). Turn on new IK chain for chest Try moving hip the way you want it , Very little movement is possible before odd effects happen, but the chest and upper body are kept relatively static. Turn of Chest IK chain when you have the pose you want.

Hello all, You can create the pelvis thrust (pelvic tilt to be exact) using the Poser Dependant Parameter, morphing and, for the advanced users, helper bone. All the details are explained in the tutorial that are included with my free stuff related to this motion. I have created the motion for M4 and V4. The links are:
