Hi folks, need to get into photoshop in support of 3d and esp making textures etc. What im wondering is if the only way now to get Photoshop is through a yearly cloud plan. And if I understand correctly you cant access it if your internet goes down. Any chance of purchasing an older version like say cs6? Some of the software that will be using with PS to make textures requires at least cs3. One more question, the single app plan is 19.99/m while the Photography plan is 9.99/m....both list photoshop included, but is this the same full version of PS? Prefer owning software instead of relying on a net connection and that maybe one day money gets critically tight. Thanks, Scott

@scotti You can purchase older copies of PS on Amazon. You can even purchase a full current version instead of the subscription. (download only, no disks anymore) I do the subscription thing, but you don't have to be online for it to work. It will check for an online connection and if it doesn't find one, will warn you that you have something like 90 days to log on so it can verify your subscription. I only log online with my art computer once every three months to let it 'phone home'. As for the different plans, I think the 9.99 plan isn't the full PS, just the light version. I have the plan that gives me PS and Illustrator.

Does anyone know about the 9.99 plan? Why do you get PS and Camera Raw for half of what 1 program costs in the other plan? Makes one wonder what they are getting for their money.

I realize this is the PS forum, but there's noone in the PSP forum.... I need to update, and at this point I am looking at cloud PS vs PSP. PSP is inexpensive, but can I use all the PS stuff I have collected like custom shapes, tools, etc? Or am I better off just sticking with PS and doing the upgrade? I really don't care if I "own" the software, that means nothing to me. I just want to know what I am getting for my money...and really what the competition is. I need HDRI support and I am not even sure if PSP supports that (i have a bad install atm and their support is trying to help me fix so I can evaluate).

I stopped using PSP somewhere around PS4. What I like about the subscription plan is that I can use the version I like. You have the option of upgrading continuously to the current PS, but you can roll-back if you don't like it. That's what I did. The current version got rid of a tool I liked, so I rolled it back.

I own both the PS Cloud plan and also updated and own the current version of PSP because well I still like some of the tool in it and I find it easier for using tubes. But one of the improvements they made in the current version of PSP is a bit better support for PSD files it is not perfect to PS since it is their file format but if on a budget PSP is not a bad option as well as learning Gimp which I also have installed on my system my biggest issue with Gimp is loading takes sometimes forever to start up. Hope this helps some.

SCOTT: I'm also looking at **Quixel **for doing some texturing. Did you ever get it, and did you ever get a version of Photoshop to use with it?

I did take advantage several months ago and got the Quixel suite myself while on a special sale and it is on sale again for 40% off which if you been on the line about getting it now might be a great time to invest in it

I have the 9.99 plan. It was the only way to get Photoshop to work in Windows 10. I use Photoshop CC 2014. I like the plan, it fits my budget. Further more, I have found color palettes you can you use. Find different workspaces, and more. There is also BeHance but I personally haven't wrapped my brain around that yet.

I find I'm using the Camera Raw filter a lot now since I found out about it. Its awesome!

It all depends how into you are into Photoshop.
