Subject: DAZ Alternative? Suggestions welcome.

Hi I recently tried to upgrade from DAZ 4.6 to 4.9 and as per it was a DAZaster; I can't log-in for no apparent reason even though I have updated my password and the EULA,still no love. Because of that the Catatogry/Content shell is empty, and I cannot even create sub catagories to recreate my routes by hand. As 90% of my content is Renderosity product. This seemed to be the best place to ask for a possible Alternative.

I do own Poser debut, but I have never liked the dismembered body parts interface, just creepy; but I may have to get past that- still I thought I would ask.My major use of Daz is not so much for Rendering but as a Virtual Artists Model to create images I load into Manga Studio for finishing. So it does not need to be the best rendering engine. Just something compatable with poser runtimes and reasonably reliable / professionally put together. Just had enough of the Pile of Buggy Nonsense that DAZ remains. I have used DAZ since 3.0 and it has never gotten better that way. It's hard for me to believe professionals produce that product. Your Thoughts on an Alternative. BB

Sounds like a corrupted hard drive or corrupt registry. I have never had DAZ crash that badly. Do you have a backup??

Could this be caused by file corruption as suggested? Download a hard drive tool from the manufacturers site and check them all. Windows 10 is also known to cause no end of problems. Two thirds of windows users have stayed with Win 7 which has to tell you something. All versions of Daz have been rock solid for me The only problem I've ever had was quickly fixed by rescanning my content files with the CMS. I suggest you open a support ticket over at Daz and ask in the forums there. There are a lot more Daz users there than here.

When updating any of the editions, be sure to also nab updated installers for the PostgreSQL and any other of the purchased plugins. Now I have NOT myself gone to this latest edition however in the past IF the DIM installer [or whatever they're calling it now] was among the items being updated [usually is], THAT I would always have to "install manually" because between the AV and OS, there was no way it was going to be permitted to run something to update itself. Once the manual install was done though, then DIM would work as expected [and log-in].

Thanks Boudicca and all, I very much expect your right. I did recover to DAZ 4.7 but I had to uninstall the PostgreSQL to do it; I expect a manual reinstall of DIM will be necessary to get 4.9 working as you indicated; I'll have to read up on just how to do that, but it cant be that hard.

For now at least I've got the studio working well enough to create the base image I wanted to port over to Manga Studio. A friends Yahoo Group is Studying Amaterasu just now and I wanted to do a close up of a larger image of that goddess, but the original is too distant for any detail. So I have posed my "Claudia" Character in the pose of the Goddess in the Source image with Daz to I can layer them and recover some detail. I think it will be a good image and will link the results later.

TY all for your help Troubleshooting. I am still thinking I need to find a useful Alternative, maybe try Poser Debut again. Sick of loosing two days work everytime I upgrade this program to the inevitable debugging battle. BB.

Happy you got something working there!

To manually update the DIM one used to go into one's Product Library and manually download the installer. Then right-click on the installer and run it as "Admin". The update normally took care of previous editions.

Ok will try that, and thanks again for all your help with this issue.
