Hi Goofy
Can you provide a screenshot of a folder with a obj contained in it with the "view" set to details? There is a difference between the "Opens with" setting and the renaming of files and extensions. If the file ext has been changed I can point you in the direction of renaming software that can do this in bulk after testing a single obj of course to see if it solves this issue, however it is highly unusual for an application to change extensions on your hard drive. This would also present problems with your Daz, Poser etc content and it's obj's

LPR001; Yes it has effected all obj files,right now all .obj files have the Bryce app.Before it was Microsoft's 3d draw to print app,all obj files would only open with that app.When I deleted the app,object viewer replaced it.I put the Bryce app there to see if it would open the files.To say the least the file ext seem's to be changed. Goofy :}
I see there is no extension at all and the only OBJ in sight is in the naming. Notice how the material file has the extension. .mtl Even if it was a image file it would have the appropriate extension. So any obj file you open in your folders you see the same? (Just the name and nothing else)

Given that you can hide extensions however I don't believe this is the part of this because the .mtl file is fully labelled. Can you go to that file "jill" right click on the (OBJ) Bryce icon and select properties at the bottom and get a screenie of the result?
What we are looking for is type of file which is right under title. where the red arrow is pointing. If you see the same as in my image then go back to the Bryce file jill and right click choose "Rename" and the jillOBJ part will highlight . Click just right of that and put .obj so it sits right where it should. You might get a popup telling you that changing an extension can make it unstable. Just accept/acknowledge this because there is nothing more unstable than no extension at all or at least it will never work in any software.
So in the above order check Properties to see it is actually identified as a obj file. If yes then the renaming of the one file to test it out. Even a file extension software requires a extension to go from to the new one

Okay Goofy
Good to see it is reading as .obj so the one on the jillOBJ might have been removed accidently. The Bryce app setting you can change easily but does not really make a lot of difference unless for example you had a 3D Modeling program you prefered it to open in. In the image you just posted (The Properties) you see the Bryce icon and next to that you can see "Change" you will be offered the most suitable and can scroll to bottom and choose to find application on PC if not shown.

LPR001 What exactly am I to find or what properties item to open? when I open ether item in the above picture there is nothing at the bottom of the properties file to tic. Now I am really confused .:) as what to do next.is there a way to get the wavefront app back? Well my bad it's there I tic-ed it ,went to Bryce no go still wont open then.:(
You don't have to worry about my time Goofy it is a forum and I am staff. Not only that I am really curious now LOL. Does it tell you it can't load file and is the preview window completely blank after load and you can still see the ground grid?
I can't see why these would not be in the plugins folder but we better check just in case. I have put the location above my text message in the screenshot to check for the two files. Make sure it is the x86 program files even if your computer is 64bit

Okay it seems to me that the issue is not in Bryce but rather a shared dll(Possibly) file that has headed south, corrupted or tripping off the security warning. It does happen occasionally usually at install of another application. If you open Daz Studio then File>Import and choose a obj file (Try new obj not jillOBJ) When the File explorer is opened by Daz Studio first use the file extension drop down to force the explorer to only show the "Wavefront Object" files and nothing else. If you see a empty explorer box let me know, or hopefully you can just choose your new obj. First before load > Right click on chosen obj > Properties > if there is no mumbo jumbo at the bottom about the obj may be blocked that would be nice however if there is like the last one then check the "unblock" box so we know the security is not stopping it, do this all from within Daz.. Click open. This should cover everything leaving Bryce out of it for a test :-)

It is a process of elimination goofy and by the time we replace your house, car and computer I just know we can get this sorted.
So when I scroll up here to the last screenshot you posted I still see the extension missing on the object file LI_Fractured_Wall. According to your properties on the previous files it indicates that they are from another computer and a filter is kicking in and therefore blocking it. Seems after unblocking you can open it in other applications so there is no reason why it should not work in Bryce. We need to isolate this and rule it out of why they are not opening in Bryce so we will now try a fresh local install of a prop. I have downloaded and tested a neat freebie prop and the link provided below.
Please download it to your "Downloads" folder and unzip it in there as well so it is all kept on the C:Drive.(you can always move it later) Open Bryce >Import select the C460.obj and open. (If you do not see the .obj extension in the file do the right click Properties>Unblock but let me know you had to do this because that will give us a direction to head in).

Make sure you can see the default ground grid so we know it is the right view. Hopefully we will see the same thing as in the screenshot below

Mine certainly looks better :-) I would give everything of yours away but the dog to fix it too goofy. Again that no matching files in your second image indicates the .obj extension is missing even on a fresh download so Bryce has nothing to even look for.
So if you go to the downloaded folder via File Explorer do you see the files in there? Should be 22 files all up. And is the .obj extension in place and visible? If it wasn't for the fact the ext's are missing on the previous objects(In your File Explorer) I would recommend a reinstall of Bryce but I really feel this is a permissions or security issue because Bryce has no way of changing those files on your system even if it wanted to.
If you go to the file explorer and choose MY PC or This PC, whatever depending on Windows version and in the search box up at top right type in .obj (**don't forget the dot and don't let the Today, Tomorrow or Last Week get in the way just - Date Modified) and just let it search the hard drive I would be interested to know if it actually finds one other than the few you have altered during this debacle. If it does not then we might have to delve into the security and permissions.

I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is your Bryce is in impeccable order. The bad news is something has gone horribly wrong with your extensions. I can see that under Type it is identifying the correct file types so it is not getting confused about it and knows what they are. I noticed the IrfanView PNG's look to be having the same issue.
Just another thought are you using Windows 10? I can't remember now but wasn't 3D Builder an included app that come with the OS? and did you remove it from the Program Files or the Command Prompt? I am pondering whether the removal has taken some core files with it or sent them south. There is no reason why 3D builder would interfere with Bryce and as I have pointed out the icon that appears on a file is just a prefered option to open remote from File Explorer and can be changed to suit Bryce or any other software. Importing from inside any software that handles the files does not care which software brand icon is showing
One option will be to reinstall this program and see if that helps unless the issue you are having with the OBJ's existed before you removed the 3D Builder
Now here is how mine looks and we both got the same file from here

Okay in between my novel you answered one question Windows 10 so I think the 3D Builder app come included with the OS so it makes me wonder whether it is worth reinstalling.
Actually you might not have to LOL I just looked at the reviews on it and apparently MS will reinstall it on your next update. They don't want you to delete it for some reason.

Don't get me started on Windows 10 because life is too short. There are many features I quite like and they are improving the major bugs fairly quickly these days. But some of it defies logic. There may be some shared dll's included that may have caused this and at this stage anything is worth a try. I was just about to kick the program off one of the Windows 10 machines here to see if it took the gloss off the OBJ's. Here is a link to get the software. Hopefully it might make a difference

Makes you wonder if there is not some artifacts from the previous uninstall because the proper way to be rid of a MS pre installed app is through the Command Prompt but as I said yesterday MS will try put it back on in the next update. They can't have you making all the decisions LOL.

How do I get back the wave-front app or program? With out the app .obj Bryce won't import any .mlt .obj files. Any ideas about coming up with a program, how to get the wave-front.obj file's back?
