Subject: Bad Poser Pro 11 Bad! Silly Windows!

EarthCrone ( ) posted Sat, 17 September 2016 at 9:51 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 6:15 AM

I installed Poser Pro 11 and not thinking about its destination it installed it to Program Files (I’m on Windows 10 64 bit). I had a similar problem when I first installed Poser 10 where it had first installed it to the same location. That was a problem and when I had to completely wipe my computer I decided on a whim to install it into Programs (x86) where it played so much nicer. All was there including the complete Runtime. As I like to manually add content...and not install via .zip files this is a big plus for me.

So with the intention of just adding a few figures I want to work with right now to create content for, I find in the Smith Micro folder in Program files no "real” Runtime. So I decide to do a bit a backwards search where my Runtime might be loading by attempting to change a texture for Alyson only to find it is located in (C:) Users > Documents > Poser 8. As an oldie using a computer I really don't like things to be located in my User's files unless absolutely necessary.

According to a RDNA Post regarding a Poser 2014 it suggests the following...incoming link.

WHERE is Poser Pro 2014 Content folder???

Sooo, I get to the point, where can I install it as Programs (x86) already has a Smith Micro Folder, and I’m assuming it might be a bad idea to merge the two. Installing it onto an external drive is not an option as due to my circumstances of working on a laptop in bed I have issues with too many things attached to my laptop.

I thank you all my friends and this should somehow got double posted I apologize, I tried for fun to add a image to the post for fun and poof it sent back to the forum listing.

Cheers CT

The Poser Pro installer tried to do just what it should have; install Poser Pro (which is 64bit) to program files, and install the content to shared documents, so that you could save things there (perform write operations) without interference from Windows' User Account Control (a security feature which protects programs from malware attack). Do not put content anywhere within program files.

You might try uninstalling, then re-install and this time go with the default installation locations.

Just be aware, the pro versions do give you an option to install a 32-bit counterparts into Program (X86) as a measure to allow 32-bit Python scripts to function properly. If you are not interested in retaining both 32- and 64-bit versions, do uncheck the option (on by default) and proceed with the installation. This, on itself, has no impact on your content installation.

also you can install both PP11 and it's content outside the program files entirely. I have saved them on an external drive and it saves on hd storage space.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I have copied and pasted them into word and consider my options.

As I ordered the disk uninstalling and reinstalling is not a big issue as I haven't downloaded the updates yet. As they are rather large and I live in the country these downloads tend to take bit of time!

You guys are Awesome!
