Subject: converting poses question

Darkworld ( ) posted Sun, 05 March 2017 at 5:13 PM · edited Wed, 01 January 2025 at 4:02 AM

Hi folks,

so i'm interested in converting my V4 poses for use with G3. I've got the converter to go V4-G2, and then i figure i can manually adjust them from there (or use converter G2-G3 if i can ever figure that out), the problem is the converter does not work out of the box it is asking for victoria 4.dsf

I have no idea what this file is. I'm using Daz Studio (albeit extremely slowly i'm brand new), and i have all my poser libraries hooked up to it and available. I just need to figure out the missing piece so that i can start converting poses.

Any help much appreciated! in fact if there's someone willing to take some time and guide me through this process i've got no problem hooking you up with pose packs.

Thanks!

I have a similar question about converting from Genesis to G3. I can convert from G2 to G3, but can't find a tool to convert G to G2. The G2 to G3 converter doesn't read the Genesis poses.

"the problem is the converter does not work out of the box it is asking for victoria 4.dsf"

Have you installed the Daz Studio components?

I have that .dsf file in my data folder of my content library. If you have installed the Studio components of the base, check and see if the .dsf is the correct place.

what are the "Daz Studio components?" I have G3, and G2. do i need to buy a V4 version that works with DS or something?

searched my HD and can't locate victoria 4.dsf. i'm not exactly sure which content is supposed to install it. i listed all the .dsf files on my PC and i have victoria 5, but nothing for victoria 4.

Okay it seems I may of jumped the gun a little here, I did a bit more research for you on the issue.

The developer of the product addressed this issue on the Daz Forums a while back. It appears that the file it calls for is part of another product "victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female" basically its a custom UV for for Genesis 2 Female that matches V4 to allow using V4 material Presets.

The developer says that you should be safe to just ignore the error message, as it bears no relevance to the actual conversion:

"Are you still able to do the pose conversion? If yes then just ignore that message because it has no relavance to the pose converting process." - ZevO

If the files end with the extension .dsf instead of .duf, you will need to load each pose on Genesis and save it back as a pose. Also if you have draagonstorm's g2 to G3 converter it should then convert those Genesis files as the rigging is similar except for the hand pose.

I converted some Genesis poses to G3 last weekend so know this method works.

There is thread a the DAZ freebie forum about a freebie that converts poses from A3 to V5, V6 and v6, M4 to M5, M5 and M6, and V4 to V5, V6 and V7 and I have tried V3 and that also worked. It's not a quick method, because you can only one pose at the time and you have to save it yourself, but IMHO it does a better job than the commercial converters. I spent a whole weekend converting my over 300 selfmade V4 poses to V7, but it was worth it.

Bopper

I also use a freebie script (I forget the author's name, but it provoked a lot of discussion on the DAZ forums over at the DAZ site). I found that it worked almost perfectly going from V4/M4 to V6/M6 but that going directly to V7 required a tremendous amount of fiddling with arms and hands. Sometimes I got better results going from V4 to V6 and then from V6 to V7 rather than jumping from V4 to V7. Expressions do not transfer over regardless, but that's not a problem for me because I always do custom expressions instead of relying on pose sets for that.

The downside is that it is time consuming since you have to load up both V4 and V7 then do a little tapdancing with your fingers before transferring each pose. It's something I can fill up an hour or two with on those rainy days when I am feeling totally uninspired creatively but want to do something related to my hobby.
