Subject: Second Skin Not Showing Up

DireLilith ( ) posted Fri, 10 March 2017 at 9:47 PM ยท edited Sat, 02 November 2024 at 5:19 AM

i use P11, and i've got a typical V4 character up nude. i have had lululee's fancy lingerie second skins for awhile but always have trouble loading them up. the only way i could do it was to open P9, load up my girl, add the ss, save, then load it back up in P11 and render that way. same with the tattoos from shana c.

i just tried that method today, and it isn't working. when i look in the nodes in the material room, i see the image map for the lingerie i wanted connected there. but for some reason it's not showing up in the PoserSurface node.

i've been working with poser since P4, but i am NO pro! i'm really hoping there's some box i haven't checked off somewhere. help would be appreciated, mew.

It would help if you include a screen cap of the Material Room in a post just to see what is going on.

it's something to do with the SSS option. i installed lululee's update from 2016, that includes an SSS version of her textures. but that didn't work.

i went to the girl's texture library, and chose her non SSS skin/mat files. and then did the lingerie and it worked. but i still would like help getting a fix for the SSS.

I don't know the product but a common problem with using overlays and SSS is the texture mats plug into the alt diffuse input on the poser surface node whilst the overlay script is expecting the skin texture to use the diffuse color input. Has this product worked before with this SSS texture set?

DireLilith ( ) posted Fri, 10 March 2017 at 11:26 PM

not that i'm aware. but any time i've tried using it, i've had to do my tedious work-around.

so, what would i change in the nodes? make it plug into the diffuse color input or? i'll try anything. can't really break it!!

ironsoul ( ) posted Fri, 10 March 2017 at 11:37 PM

Unfortunately that would break the shader, my workaround is to apply the non sss skin texture, add the overlay and then run Snarly's Ezskin script to add the sss. In this case it might add the sss to the clothing so might look odd. Do you recall where the advanced shader script is available, if its free I could download it and see what's doing.

DireLilith ( ) posted Fri, 10 March 2017 at 11:43 PM

mm i do not. hm. i applied the non SSS texture and the item worked fine. but of course, it's not SSS right, and i did want the SSS. i guess i need this script thing!

thank you for the help and for responding, both of you =)

Regarding it not running in Poser 11. Did you reinstall the product when moving to P11 or just reuse the existing runtime? If the latter then it might be worth doing a re-install, A problem I find when upgrading Poser is python scripts need to be reinstalled (they go into the runtime Poser sets up for itself not the user content runtimes)

1 - Disconnect Edge_Blend_4 from value 1 of Blending_Diffuse_Color

2 - Plug your subsurface skin node into Value 1 of Blending_Diffuse_Color

3 - Disconnect Blending_Diffuse_Color from PoserSurface Diffuse_Color Plug Blending_Diffuse_Color into PoserSurface Alternate Diffuse (thus disconnecting Subsurface Skin)

As it looks now, seems your node setup is actually bypassing the overlay (which I'm assuming is Image_Map_6.

Consider me insane if you wish, but is your reality any better?

bwldrd ( ) posted Sat, 11 March 2017 at 8:24 AM

Well not actually bypassing, but it isn't plugged in to your alternate diffuse and the defualt diffuse is set to 0 since there are nodes plugged into Alternate_Difffuse. The Blending_Diffuse_Color (which is what provides the mixing of the texture and overlay) is plugged in to the 0 Value diffuse only. Which is why it's not appearing.

Consider me insane if you wish, but is your reality any better?

Which body glove, please?

the one I tried applied and rendered in PP11 without error..... I Made V4 Active by clicking on her and then drug the Second skin on to her (I drag everything)

Most of Lululee's stuff needs the semidieu advanced shader plugin. Have you installed this in poser 11?

lululee ( ) posted Thu, 23 March 2017 at 4:32 PM

Hi, I've been away from the computer and just returned. The lingerie set requires semidieu's FREE Advanced shader plugin. semidieu made it available for FREE at Daz. Go to Daz and type in his name and go to his store. You will see it there for FREE so you can add it to your cart and download it. Install it in the base Poser SOFTWARE you are working in. For instance if you are running Poser 11 install in Poser 11. Please contact me if you have any problem. Cheerio lululee
