anyone interested in exactly why G3 and G8 crash carrara?

it's not the weightmapping causing the "crash".

There is a very specific thing in G3 and G8 that cause the crash.

Certain clothes will crash Carrara for the same reason.

if 100 or more carrara users post that they are interested in this topic, I will ,,make screenshots to explain ... ...

I would like to know.

oh dear, G8M out? does he crash?

I can get Genesis3 in without crashing, but so far G8F does make Carrara crash, sadly. I'm very interested to know, so here's my vote too.

typos!!
(not poking fun, i type typos all day long.)

found a couple dozen typos in the g3s duf files. and seems to be carried over to the g8s

typos like #lLipCorver. url in the scene nodes, looking for its joints, but typo in the url doesn't match the id for the joint.

seems like there is carrara confusion with lCarpal2 and lCarpal2-1

i converted g3f to blended rigging first step,

then tweaked a typo, load in carrara, ctash, tweak next typo, load, crash, til i got up to lCarpal4, after that, she fully loaded in carrara

guess wasnt so exciting after all lol

Typos???? Really? That's just ....... well ........ uuummmmm ...... sloppy! Did you try reloading your typo fixed version back into DS? Does it work better, the same, or does it not work? Makes me wonder how it works in DS, maybe they have some sort of error handling to make these mistakes non-mistakes??

my theory is ds is looking up the name, where as carrara is looking up the id.

i did offer this info to rhymes with razz, they deleted the threads. basically, got the treatment like the vwd

Or, to add to your speculation, maybe it's just that either they weren't smart enough to figure it out, or that they didn't care (weren't able to care??) to even try, because those in charge have decided Carrara is not worth their time ($$$$), and there will be no further investments in doing anything related to Carrara.

Technical reasons I can understand - but typos??!! As has been said, that just sounds sloppy.

the toe thing in victoria 8 morph is whats killing me now

same thing to a lesser degree in olympia 8 morph

if you can figure out how to make Carrara save sizes as small as Studio, that would make so much easier :)

Wait a second. It could look like DazStudio never wanted G3 to be used in Carrara as they do not support or work on carrara anymore and are focused on DazStudio, like they want that their figures or models will only work on Daz and no other software... That sounds a bit like DazStudio wants to sabotage Carrara but why could there be a reason to do that? Maybe the reason is that they've found out that Carrara doesn't get them that much money like they hoped to get and they get much more with just DazStudio... So they are just a bunch of cash-hungry pillok?

If so, than it would be very interesting if DazStudio would sell the whole Carrara Project to some independent programmer who are also using Carrara for 3D.

Thanks for the info. I haven't tried looking at the figure coding, it is rather advanced for me. But I've been wishing I could use Genesis 8 in Carrara.

If the problem is just the one foot, I suppose we can work around it. Just keep it from being visible. But maintaining ownership of Carrara and then sabotaging it makes me angry.

all g8f full body character morphs miss those 3 toes.

think i've narrowed the problem down to the root region.

there's some trickery with the toes, they arent "true" bodyparts. cant tick the individual toes invisible.

the g8male foot has like 2,000 more polys than the female, his feet seem okay, havent seen signs of the dreaded toe distortion.

on the female, it's always the same ring of polys being missed by the morph, corrective morphs are feasible, it sucks tho to need an extra workaround

It seems to be just the big toe that is affected this time. The other two seem ok.

Maybe a shader preset could make these toes invisible and then create a conforming figure for prosthetic toes?

discovered the other day there is a vendors workshop forum. i posted in there i'd be interested in making carrara presets for G3 outfits. shoes are tricky. will see what happens. that forum pretty quiet.

also discovered prime has a monthly freebie and gives a 20% monthly coupie. :bouquet2:

the problem childs are actually 10 lil polies around the toenail. it drags the neighbor polys up with them, looks exponentially messy

i'm adding a new morph category in the g8f morphs tree, naming it 'Carrara, Correctives'. creating x,y,z sliders for each naughty toe group. could use them to fix wayward problems for any of the g8f fbms

Can you use Carrara's vertex modeler or Studio's geometry editor to show us the wireframe of which polygons are the problem? Or how to identify them? I wonder if it could be fixed with an FBM or weightmapping.
