Subject: Giving it a go

Hi Guys Well decided I would put something out there that I have done in Blender. And did a piece and entered it into a competition. Not an overly big comp Just one of the ones run by Andrew Price (Blender Guru). Had to be posted at Art Station so hoping to get a lot of feed back on it as well from there. But thought I would show it here and see what you guys thought as well as I know its full of errors and F$%^ ups.roguegirl.png

Looks good incantrix just a bit dark so some of the detail is seems hidden but from what I can make out still looks good 👍

Thanks Lobo the hdr image and background image lends a lot towards the darkness. Which does cover up a few things which I like. A lot of things are not how I originally wanted them as in the loin cloth started out as modelled chain mail and the treed back ground was first up modelled and imported obj's but when I started to hit 20,000,000 + vertices my old machine started having hissy fits. As it was this image took near on 40 hours to render.

I'm sure you're going for low-key lighting, but as Lobo pointed out, you need more contrast. It's perfectly okay to add in lamps to HDRI lighting.

Also, brightening parts of the scene may help with render times.

It is better to do one thing well, than to do many things and excel at nothing.

Thanks Dramaking have been so used to using 4 to 8K hdri's that are normally very bright and sun laden that I stopped using extra lighting other than to model etc. So didn't think of adding lights even though using a 4k called dark cloudy morning and a very dark background image. Something I will have to keep in mind for my next one, specially if it speeds up render times.

Hi Lobo I used 2.78C for this one was seriously thinking of using 2.79 and not sure why I didn't And as yet can't work out the layers in 2.8 or how to turn off the rendered preview when all I want is a shaded or wireframe view. (Probably something simple to do though lol). I also someone at Art Station talking about how dark the image is. So thinking a lot to do with my monitor as it shows very nicely on it.

Very cool. šŸ‘ As was mentioned a little contrast could make this scene even better. Google baroque art for some great examples of dramatic lighting. By the way did you model any of the stuff?

Thanks Cybermonk the sword and the axe I got off blend swap and the hair was a very old Daz3D one V3 I think. Everything else I did inside Blender using what was available to me in it like the manual bastoni lab all the clothes etc where done by hand and fitted, gave me a better appreciation for the poser content creators. The guidelines for the comp was that you could only use about 20% of external stuff all else had to be done in blender with all add on's accepted in that. I am hoping that I get asked to submit my blend file and hopefully get some feed back from that.

Thanks Cybermonk, As much as the prizes would come in quite handy for using Blender I have no expectations of getting close to them. I was mainly using it to actually complete something as I have about 10 half finished projects sitting here atm and having a time frame to do it in gave that extra push to get into it and have something to post. Plus getting feed back is always very handy. As others see more of what needs doing at times than you can yourself.

Very nice work, but I have to agree about the lighting.

Ty Bryster Think a lot has to do with my monitor. I've seen images that people have raved about the lighting and to me they have appeared washed out.
