Subject: mp4/mkv software and editing software

I saw a posting about the video gallery and making mp4 files.

An excellent converter is and has always been free called Handbrake ( http://handbrake.fr ). It will convert, resize to mp4 or mkv, also good if you want to make a smaller version, I have taken a number of huge tutorials I had purchased some that were multiple gigs in size and reduce them to hundreds of gigs and still look great. It is Cross Platform, Mac, Windows, Linux. It has presets for a number of devices, it supports the standard x264 and the new x265.

For those who need editing Hitfilm Express ( http://hitfilm.com ) is free (There are a lot of tutorials on the site including project based ones you can download the components to do and learn, check out their website and their youtube channel )

Another is from black magic designs, they have released there commercial software and has a free version (not cut down) ( network rendering stuff, and multiple people on multiple stations for studios is still cost ) https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/ it seems that Fusion (additional vfx) which you can also get free from them is being rolled into Resolve but I just started reading on that. Resolve is also excellent. I own Hitfilm Pro and the Express is an excellent product just doesn't have all the VFX add ons included, and Resolve is a full featured program as well. I have more plans on digging into resolve soon.

Black Magic also has a stand alone fusion, https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/fusion/ it talks about 3d model rendering, I am not sure if the one in the Resolve does that in the free one. But since Fusion stand alone can also be free (without the network and studio stuff) it might be a tool you would want. Black Magic makes industry hardware and Cameras

Hope these help someone
