Subject: FaceGen OBJs

Jo_Greenan ( ) posted Sun, 27 October 2019 at 5:32 AM · edited Mon, 18 November 2024 at 8:23 AM

Hi, I have tried loading an OBJ produced in a windows prog, but it is not a suitable OBJ. Now I'm considering buying FaceGen core. It says heads can be exported to OBJs but are they the type that can be loaded into PP11.
Thanks

It sounds to me like you're taking the 'long way around', and may not be aware that Poser Pro already has a Face Room for creating custom faces and heads?

Thanks, Harty. I gave up to that years ago. It really does not compare.

Poser's default format is OBJ ( wavefront object )

according to the website

Export to Filmbox (FBX), 3D Studio (3DS), Maya ASCII (ma), Lightwave 6.x LWO2 (LWO), Wavefront (OBJ), Softimage dotXSI 3.0 (XSI), VRML 97 (WRL) or STL including all expression morph targets if desired.

and the faceroom does not work with all figures.

I think I will give it a go. Thanks structure

Could you use this OBJ-free workflow? Or will the DSON not handle FaceGen-made heads sent over from the DAZ runtime?

  1. FaceGen to a Genesis 2 head in DAZ, save.

  2. Then into Poser via the free DSON converter.

  3. Then manually fit the head onto a Poser character?

I got it. The exported OBJ or 3ds load directly into poser, no problems, just have to save the face map as JPEG or the head comes out purple. The eyes lack life but practice will remedy that. I've never been able to make realistic heads of real people before. Thanks you for your replies, I would not have taken this quite expensive step without your information.

what face generator did you get? Face shop 8 works with La femme, while face shop 9 does not. Face shop 9 adds vertexes. Or at least for me. But it really does not give realistic heads. So if you have a better one, let me know.
