It has been a few years since my plans to have a career in 3d. Suffice it to say the dream is gone and Life has been, unkind. But I find I miss it so much. I am having to learn new software as well as relearn an old one. But I will be sharing some of the things I create as freebies. Not going to say they will be great, just free lol. Most of what i'll be making is architectural pieces and small structures. Also some terrains and environment parts. I can't say I can or will make it but feel free to post ideas for small things to make. I should also add that I dont have Poser or Daz installed. After the last PC crash I just dont have the time to get it all back together. I did try with daz a few times but something is off and tbh I havent had the time to worry about it. take care

Thanks, will be pretty basic as I havent modelled in a couple years. I dont get to use Maya 2018 anymore so its either back to 2014 or Blender. Kinda interested to try Blender and see how rough it is to get a good render.

At this point I will be using maya 2014. Im modelling to create and texture meshes to use in unreal. i thought i'd drop em in here in case anyone could use em. I was in Maya 2018 but cant use it anymore. I tbh dont know if i'll have time to learn Blender, not until a certain exam is done. But i somewhat know maya. My main focus is learning unreal and secondary reupping modelling skills and texturing.

Blender really has come leaps forward in terms if interface and features. Since you are jumping back in, it may be worth a look. It's a powerful and cheap way to get a new start.

Have you tried SketchUp? It's great at architectural modeling. They have a free version, both online and downloadable software, Window and Mac.

I'm a 3D nube and I was making all kinds of stuff the first day. As example, I modeled a hippy house that I built and lived in back in the seventies. Never did save any photos, so it was fun to recreate it in 3D.

3dOutlaw-yes i've seen some really nice work in Blender and I plan on having a look. Baba, thx and yes ive worked in Sketchup before. Will start out in Maya since thats what I kinda know. Then as time permits will do some looking. I also want to create some natural and organic meshes. Doubt I will ever try sculpting people tho. I also have always wanted to make rocks and trees and terrain in Zbrush. Have that on the backburner as time is very limited. Theres just something so theraoeutic in creating a mesh, texturing it and rendering it. My first love is LIGHT. If you've never looked Unreal Game Engine is free and a beautifull tool. If you signup you also get all the Megascans textures for free to use within Unreal. You could create things and take them into Unreal and make a scene then go in and explore it.

As regards textures...yes or no? I usually use megascans and Substance textures for myself. Can't use the Megascans ones for freebies but if altered sufficiently Allegorithmic gives permission to use theirs. But would it be better to leave it untextured so people can texture it as befits their scene? I may start that way and see how it goes. Other thought is pristine clean meshes or weathered and with 'character'? Perhaps as befits the item and my available time. Thanks
