Subject: DAZ CMS not starting...

Cobbler3D ( ) posted Sun, 03 July 2022 at 5:07 AM · edited Fri, 31 January 2025 at 12:20 AM

So now that I have a brand new PC that I have successfully built (From the CPU discussion), I had to reinstall all my apps (what a huge DRAG) DAZ installed fine but the PostgreSQL/CMS connection doesn't want to start. The button in the smart content pane doesn't start it either ... I've checked the cluster directory and port settings in the preferences tab and everything looks good along with the postgresql conf file that reflects the port number and path that DAZ is using.

Error Message:

"A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established.  Several DAZ Studio features that require a valid PostgreSQL CMS connection, such as context aware content views and loading content installed using the Daz Connect service, will not be available.  Check your network, anti-virus, and firewall settings for conflicts."

The DIM app seems to work when connecting to CMS but DAZ Studiodoes not... If I can reach across the web via DIM using my account login then I am thinking my network/firewall/antivirus are not tripping up the connection between DAZ and PostgreSQL.

Any hints/help?

Well, accessing Daz across the web and postgreSQL may both use Intertnet Protocol but they are obviously using differnt ports and also doing different things. PostgtreSQL can certainly be fussier than a web browser from what I have seen. Are you using a resatored back of the databse, or has it (if anything) created a new databse from scratch? When Daz Studio is running do you see several PostgreSQL process in the Background Processes list in Task Manager (you will need More Details, at bottom left, on)? It might be worth trying to change tie Content Cluster or port settings (one at a time), though changing the Content Cluster will start from a blank database.

Thanks for the reply Richard,

I believe I just fixed it. Sorry for making you go through all of that!

Apparently the brand new DIM install of DAZ v.4.20 automatically uses the directory C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\cms as the default cms cluster directory in the preferences settings tab. However, after looking and verifying that all the data from the cmscfg.jsn file is correct, I decided to select the subdirectory inside that path,ContentCluster, as the entire path and changed it in the preference tab to reflect that. It works!

C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\cms\ContentCluster

Apparently the DAZ DIM deployment of Studio does not have the 'ContentCluster' subdirectoryattached so fresh installs of Studio will always run into this problem. I think it's worthwhile to tell the Devs back at DAZ this...

Thanks Richard! Issue Solved...

The default should be correct, but if it was an issue with permissions changing top a different folder (which I think you wil find now has another ContetCluster folder inside it) would have given it a clean start.

Ok, I am using the only user profile which has administrator privileges. Wouldn't that be all that's required? I'm just happy it works now...

Permissions can be an issue the other way - too loose. I belive the mac version absolutely requires that the user not have write-access to the folder; Windows is not quite as fussy but still, there can be issues (using a restored back up of the database can be tricky for example, as I found when moving to a new machine a couple of years ago).
