Subject: My Big Lebowski discovery

Familiarity with this classic 1998 Coen Bros movie will helpful of course.

I've been taking the path less traveled in my purchases lately, motivated mostly by something just being interesting, but usually (OK, always), being on sale.

But the "well, what do I do with this now?" aspect has really been, I don't know, invigorating creatively. Sort of like cooking; "what do I need, or rather what do I have in the 'fridge that I need to use up"?

Fortunately, 3D assets never spoil, and often are better with age,(and some occasional current technology TLC).

Anyway, I recently picked up: https://www.daz3d.com/fg-bowling-alley-scene

And that led eventually to doing some screen captures off BD disc for references as I often do where I can.

But when I got to the point of wardrobe and looking for a bathrobe for The Dude, I was having a problem. I'm stepping back and forth through the shots, from the store until he enters his apartment, and it's not the same robe!

It's smooth & zippered in most of the shots, but with a ribbed texture & w/o zipper in others. I'm giving them a bye on color changes.

I'm not going to pay for IMDbPro to verify this, or find out if that's even in there, but just curious if.

When I encounter something like this my solution is to open a new window and dress the character as I want, then I apply the different poses that I plan to use and save him and that pose as a subset, yes each pose and subset is saved to a folder. If I recall The Dude is an old poser character. Then I import the the subset character and pose into the appropriate scene and viola! No problem. I know someone else has a different solution.   This process might work in lightwave as well.

Now that I am wide awake I think you are talking about two different robes. I do not recall seeing a zippered robe for 3D anywhere, but maybe someone else can help with this. You went from talking about a a bowling alley scene to a robe and somehow it got my mental wires twisted. There are lots of robes on Daz and even a few here. JMR has some robes at one time. Once you find a robe you like I suggest you apply shaders. There are some nice shaders that are textured and that gives you lots of choices.

Ya just need more coffee GGreen.

Part of the fun of course is trying to match as close as I can. The architecture of the Bowling Alley is pretty much spot on, which kind of got all this started.

With the character(s), I'm trying my hand at just using the shaping and morph controls. Had "auditions" last night and for The Dude; I went with Finn for Edward 8.  Using the Deckhand hair and Willis Beard for Gen8, he's pretty much there once I dial in the morphs. Had the rest of the clothing except for the robe. Had some robes but nothing ratty like The Dude would wear.  Found something here though this morning that'll work. And on sale.

I'm pretty happy with my Stranger using RY Frederic.  But wouldn't ya know it, the scene where The Dude sits at the counter with The Stranger, he's wearing a nice, thick, open style collared sweater.
