Subject: Could Vue 4 Be My Dream Come True?...

Fox-Mulder ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2001 at 5:25 AM · edited Fri, 03 January 2025 at 12:31 PM

I keep reading about all the new features that Vue 4 is going to have and I am frankly still stunned! This program is just totally under-valued! They are NUTS! for selling this software for only $199... I still use Vistapro 4 because it correctly tiles USGS DEMS to make Mega-terrains of exact geographic accuracy- like a GIGANTIC Grand Canyon scene. Well, Vue 4 is going to now do this TOO... I use Terragen because it has made the best 3D clouds and realistic atmospheres anywhere- yet it sounds like Vue 4 is very likely going to fulfill ALL my Terragen requirements... View 4 is going to have a camera Trackball like Bryce, my single favorite Bryce feature... Vue 4 is going to allow a "do it all" single pane view like Truespace, using Open GL. The one feature Truespace has always claimed as the BEST 3D interface... I'm not an animator, so with Vue 4's direct Poser model imports that satisfies all the hassles and bugs of dealing with Pro-Pack... I'm so psyched about VUE 4 that I'm making a major computer upgrade just to primarily run Vue 4. I think VUE 4 is just F**KING AWESOME, and once I get it, I may not even be around much as I will be so busy creating everything I've always wanted to do in ONE PROGRAM. So a final benefit- no more mad fox. He has left for another planet...

LOL! Man, I'd HATE to be the Fed Ex or UPS guy coming to deliver it to you. He's gonna need armor and a big dog to keep from getting trampled!

Mannn!!!!...we all gonna miss FM behaving like a beast ripping the Vue 4 packaging in less then a second, with heavy breathing and rabies like foaming from his mouth and nose. Its gonna turn him into a beast! I'm camping in on the 4 of June in my bomd shed just in case. :)

I hate to say this, Fox, but no matter how good Vue 4 turns out to be, you're setting yourself up to be disappointed. I don't think I've ever gotten a major upgrade that didn't have some sort of problem that had to be ironed out or some feature that didn't work as advertised or some dearly loved feature that was no longer there. My guess is that we'll all want 4.1 as soon as we get 4.0. -SMT

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

WADR Smallspace, We'll all want 5.0 as soon 4.0 is out. It's just our nature.

I have to agree with you there smallspace, although e-on will have to screw up big time to compete with the dissapointment of the Poser Pro Pack. With PPP, your paying CL to be an alpha tester :o( (half joke, half a dig at one of the most buggy apps I have ever used). Cheers

Apparently Martin, you have never used Quark XPress 4! THAT is one of the buggiest apps I'VE ever seen! We had a choice at my last job to use 4 or 3.32 (which I chose the latter) and 3.32 is what I still prefer to this day. All those years between versions and they STILL couldn't get it right! :) You are right about Vue 4 however...it is a MAJOR upgrade and I'm sure there will be a few little tics. But I don't think too many of us will be complaining when we finish our first real Vue 4 render! Laurie

I stored my VistoPro aside a long time ago, but I still keep Terragen handy. I also think it sounds like Vue 4 might "do away" with Terragen, at least for the skies and volumetric lighting. I don't think it will replace all my tools, but boy, it does sound like it's going to come close to doing that! :)

Actually I trust the E-On guys. They have always delivered the goods as far as I am concerned. There always has been, and always will be, whinning about everything. If there are bugs I'm sure they will be fixed much faster than some other companies that I won't mention... I'm used to doing lots of post work in Photoshop anyway, and I routinely combine all kinds of programs to get the results I want. Vue 4 will just make it MUCH FASTER to get to where I want to go, and any little things I can fix in post-work... Since Vue 3.1 runs under a Dual Win 2K environment NOW, I don't think they will have any significant problems in that area. There probably WILL be a Vue 4.1 and I think it will probably include even more features. I Think they are already able to run Poser animations now, but are keeping it in the "back room" until they are sure it is fairly bug free... All the George Lucas wannabe "animators" whine about all their "animation problems" all the time.(Much of it because they are running on CRAPPY little computers and barely know what they are doing anyway- just go to the Bryce Forum) I don't blame E-On for saving animation for a later version update...

"Actually I trust the E-On guys. They have always delivered the goods as far as I am concerned." I have the highest respect for Steve over at E-On. He's always been very responsive to my inquiries and reports of problems, and usually has an answer that takes care of it. If things run true to form, the most likely initial problem areas of Vue 4 will be the Poser and Truespace imports. (bad uv's, causing lockups and crashes, etc...) -SMT

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!
