Illustrate! 4.0 is a plugin for 3D Studio Max. Right now the software company that makes the plug is running a contest where the best submitted illustrations made using Illustrate! will win a free copy (not too bad a prize... it retails at almost $500.00.) I'm hoping I have a shot at it, since my primary obsession is 2D illustrations made with 3D technology. This is my entry in the contest. The figures are P4 Tuxedo and Man, and a bit of P4 woman (in a Nurbs gown.) They were posed in P4, then imported into Max. I was trying for a fin-de-siecle Art Noveau kind of look, like Toulouse Lautrec's advertising posters. -Nemo (still not fully functional... :-< )

the figures look great i also like making 2d objects with 3d,...but the only problem i have is the white back ground...my suggestion is to change it to a less saturated purple otherwise good job i hope you win nnuu

Thanks for the suggestion, nnuu... I tried some different versions of the image. This is my favorite, and I think it shows that you were definitely right about changing the color of the background. (It's not purple, but the beige looked best... ;->)

Congratulations Nemo! I'm always very pleased to see the extreme talents that reside on this forum 'officially' recognised and rewarded. Wonderful image, by the way. Have fun with the new software, Mike K

so now you have TWO copies...! Kind of an odd prize...like catch 22..need the program to enter to win it! Anyway, nice image... :D

fauve ( ) posted Sat, 18 September 1999 at 11:14 AM

Hehe.. now, that would just be silly. Actually, when you enter the contest, you download the free thirty-day trial version of the plugin to make images with. If you win, then you get the full, unlimited registered version as a prize. If not, the trial times out after the thirty days, and no more Illustrate. If anyone else wants to give it a shot, you can download the trial version of Illustrate! for Max at http://www.davidgould.com -Nemo
