The shaded previews are great Mike...you even have an option for what type of shaded preview you want for each of the displays i.e. smooth shaded, wireframe etc. The trackball is a nice feature for very quick adjustment, but you can move it the old fashioned way if you like :) Cheers

What he said! Actually, it's even better. You can select the type of preview you want for EACH OBJECT within each display! That's perfect for me, because after I've placed an object, I can set it to preview as just a bounding box. This really speeds things up when dealing with large scenes. The little realtime render is very cool too. It's just big enough for me to tell if something's wrong without having to do an actual render. As for the track balls, (yes, there are several of them) I'll probably never use them. It's just too easy to use the old ways. -SMT
I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!
The new camera tools alone are great! :) I like the new settings for each views from wireframe to fully shaded too...it's a must. Overall Vue 4 might have a slight decrease in speed when using the 4 OpenGL views and manipulating massive terrains but it's nowhere near what we see in LightWave! I can't believe I have a scene that has 6.2 million polys and it's got no vegetation!! Vue has an awesome way of displaying a huge load of polys with great speed. Cheers!
Filled box and smooth-shaded, you also have the option to show atmosphere fog within the view as well :) Cheers

You are getting carried away now Varian...although the render without shadows and reflections is called "sketch" ;) You wait Varian, until you start playing with Volumetric spotlights with a light gel and dust applied, with a glass ball throwing a cuastic beam onto the floor...no more house renovations in your house anytime soon :) Cheers

Ohhh, don't remind me. We're still trying to work out the problem with the new window, plus my lady's been under the weather and that's slowed things down a bunch. I'm going to receive Vue 4 soon, but I won't be able to use it until I get my new machine and get all my stuff transfered to it -- aggh, and then what? (oops, shouldn't ask!) And yes, Vue's "Sketch", "Preview", "Final" etc. is what I meant. I was hoping they'd add a couple options there, for more "painterly" renders, but ah well, I guess that'll have to wait for v.7. Thanks for the quick answers! :)

They have done an excellent job. What excites me more than anything, is to see the pictures people will be doing with it a year from now. Artists are great at doing stuff with software that was not imagined when it was first released...and there is plenty of new stuff to play with ;) Cheers

Hi, Well, I still don't have it yet, but I was wondering, I haven't seen anybody talking about a couple of the other new features, such as the trackball camera or the shaded previews. What are those like? thanks, Mike
