Subject: Selling Textures

I'm real good at texturing Poser clothes and objects, I see that some artist sell there's here as well as at Daz and Bbay, etc. How do I sell mine and can I get in trouble for doing it?

Rachel, The only way you can get in trouble for selling your textures is if you copied part of another person texture and included it in your map. Other than that Ic an't think of why you would get into trouble. As for being able to sell them. I am not sure how BBay or 'Osity works, but you can send samples and submissions to broker@daz3d.com and we would be happy to take a look and talk to you about them. Betsy Schow DAZ Tech/Legal

Well see, here's my actual problem and what I was hoping to do. I don't have a lot of money, so I can't buy a lot of the models, but when I see them advertised I think how I would've textured it and so I've been thinking if it's legal I could download model texture templates, make and sell the textures. So, I can buy more models. Would this be all right?

If the Template is free that shouldnt be a problem at all. But - Without the model to use to see how your T-Map is coming along it would be very hard to do this. Clint

I agree with Clint: without the original model, the texture will be hard to test. You can ask for "beta testers", though. Objects, such as books, banners, square-edged furniture, etc., can probably be done without owning the original object. Curvy organics (clothing and people) are difficult to match at the seams. There are a few seam maps with color-coded edges in the Forums. Many of the best texture makers will remap an item, using UVMapper, to improve the layout of the pieces. The "P4 formal" was greatly improved by making a columnar map rather than planar one. Also, Bloodsong and others have remapped the heads of the beasties so that they can have spots and stripes which don't stretch strangely at a center seam. If you plan to sell textures, you may wish to see what items already have a lot of textures (such as t-shirts) and which don't have enough... or any. Carolly
