THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Using Bryce to render Poser models

I've been reading a lot about people who export their Poser scenes to Bryce for rendering. I've gone through the art galleries and seen quite a few Poser models in Bryce renderings. What I haven't seen is use of transparency maps (mostly used in hair and eyebrows). Does Bryce just not render the transparencies? I've got a fair amount of money in my hobby budget this month and I'm considering buying the new Bryce, but this would be the make or break feature. Also does anyone have links to exceptional Poser model in Bryce images? Favorites? Thanks for any and all advice.

I import Poser models all of the time and use Trans and Bump maps all of the time. Sometimes Bryce is tricky but it can all be done. Vornado

Man, where were your images when I was looking? I spent almost two hours looking for good examples of transparency and didn't find any. Your gallery is full of them! Thanks for your input, it looks like I will be going to CompUSA later today.

Just be warned that transparency maps can bring Bryce to its knees. eyelash transparencies and a simple hairmap usually aren't a problem. I have given up using Kozaburo's beautiful hair in Bryce though. One of K's character's Nene, did me in patience-wise. Its been a while, but it seemed like it took nearly two days to render a 1024x 768 picture with artist quality antialiasing.

The trick is setting up your amterials properly. Poser's default settings on the obj are disgusting :P I always strip the model down by applying either a matte grey are shiny grey mterial. Then you just apply the textures in the material editor - setting up the transparancies and bumpmaps from there. Only thing is Bryce tranparencies are less adjustable than in Poser. In poser you can just change the amount that the trans gets applied - but in Bryce you need to adjust the trans texture. (and if you want to see more Poser in Bryce with bumps trans and whatnot go check out my Gallery at 3Dcommune - havn't reuploaded everything here yet) Lyrra
