Subject: Rendering problem with hi-res textures

This problem just started recently. I apply one of the DAZ hi-res textures to Vicky and try and render, but all I get is the program locking up and the progress box with nothing going on inside it and the only way to do anything is to close out Poser with cntrl-alt-del. I have over 600MB of RAM and I didn't have this problem a few weeks ago. Any suggestions?

how much of that 600 is dedicated to Poser? You forget that Poser is like Photoshop and demands a heckuva lot of RAM to run. As you bring more things into the equation, Poser demands more and more RAM, until you reach the limit, and the program kacks.

Dedicated memory to Poser? Do I have to do that on a PC? If so, how?

A lot of people have the same problem... As far as I can tell it's a Poser bug, and no matter how much RAM you've got, the program will still freeze. I think that Poser isn't designed for such hi-rez textures and models. The best way around this problem is (I think) to pose in Poser, and then render in an other program like Bryce or something... You might want to take a look at the attached link.

ALTER8, thanks for the link!! I missed that message thread. I thought I was the only one that had the problem. BTW has anyone sent the thread to Curiouslabs for their POSER 5 suggestions??

After I read through the old thread I tried changing virtual memory as someone suggested. I put StefyZZ's NOA and ASIA in the same scene and rendered it twice. So, feeling triumphant, I posed them, added their hair (Alice hair and MW Gel cut) and tried to render them. Everything locked up. How am I ever going to get ASIA, NOA, and one of StefyZZ's new male textures into a menage-a-trois with this kind of problem? :) But seriously, as our computers become faster, RAM and disk space become cheaper, and better textures become available (BTW have I put in enough plugs for StefyZZ). Poser 5 really neeeds to address this issue.

I agree with you on both issues. I only have NOA (for now...), and it IS a wonderfull texture. And as for CL addressing this problem... it should be on top of their list. (Dunno if it is, but it should be.) Like you said yourself: you can get 1 or 2 renders out of Poser before it freezes, so you could try that aproach. Pose a lot and render a little. You could also try downsizing the texture maps. (I know: not really an option :-) Or make a pose, and import it in Bryce. The lighting in Bryce is better anyway.
