Is there a cheap program out there that can edit the OBJ format. I'm tired of going throught half a dozen file formats to work on figures.

RDS 5.02 is the cheapest one that I know of if you can still find it. -JH.

Is that Day Dream Studio. If so I have 5 and it doesn't do OBJ firmat. Is 5.02 a patch that will allow OBJ?

The 5.02 update and the Plugin addition from Poser3. Update to 5.02 then... Do a custom install from the Poser3 CD and check in only the RDS plugins. This will update the modeler to handle obj format. -JH.

You should also download the poser extension patches from meta's site. I think the obj plugin upgrades are useful also.

Using P4 so the plugin doesn't exist. I found the obj plugin for RDS finally. It does import, but good grief the figure, heck an entire scene in a little dot. I can't even zoom in enough to work on it. Man I think I'm gunna go back to using sPatch. I woudda saved a ton of dough. What is a poser unit? A nanometer? You'd think MC would rig their applications to speak the same language. Sigh... I guess if this was easy it wouldn't be fun right?

The RDS OBJ plugin won't do, you need the update to the Mesh Form modeler. I'll see if I can find the stand-alone update on the MC FTP site. -JH.

Here it is, I hope you're on windows. The Mac version must be in another directory there. ftp://ftp.metacreations.com/pub/Applications/rds/update/win/Win_obj.zip Be sure you don't end up with two copies of the OBJ plugin in the directory, that will no doubt cause errors. -JH.

I think it is http://www5.metacreations.com/downloads/rds_plugins.html. The meshform modeler update seems to be claimed to be hidden in the obj module. They used to make it clearer which was which....

JeffH ( ) posted Fri, 15 October 1999 at 9:27 AM

Nope, the MFM update isn't linked there at all anymore. I had to find it in the directory listing. -JH.

uh... so whats the difference between the obj update and the mfm update?? i have the 5.0.2 update and the poser patch, i dont need to worry, right?

Kevin ( ) posted Fri, 15 October 1999 at 10:59 AM

The mfm update jeff found is the same one that came with poser, IIRC. It is an improvement from the one with 5.02.

nerd, you can get round the microscopic size problem by using my Objaction Scaler utility (PC only I'm afraid) to enlarge the obj file by 1000 or more before importing it. You can then scale it down again when you go the other way. It's on my site at http://www.sandylodge.demon.co.uk
