Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 06 7:01 am)
There are alot of really good tutorials out there for that, but before you go there, with any of your downloads were there instructions on where to place those files? Take a look at those first, look for the readme.txt file, then you can go to lots of places, try www.poserarcana.com they have a nice section and then check their links, also go to CuriousLabs community, they list some too. Okay, hope that helps. Sharen:-)
Some zip files will install to the proper sub-directory if you unzip them in your main Poser folder. Other zips will install if you unzip in your root C: directory (assuming poser is on C:). Some unzip to "Program Files/Meta Creations/Poser" while others to "Program Files/Curious Labs/Poser - all depending on how old the file is (the standards have changed over time but there are still a lot of old zips out there). Best thing to do is open the zip (to look at the contents - not unzip them) and determine the placement intended by the author for the final destination folders. Then unzip to a temp directory (without using folder option) and move the files manually to their proper destination folder. There are some "installer" utilities that attempt to do this themselves, but I find it just as easy to do manually. Except for main geometry files (.obj and corresponding .rsr files which must be placed in the exact sub-folder of /runtime/geometries that the author specified), all other files are more flexible, and can be in any sub-folder of their proper type (see list below) All files may or may not have an identically named .rsr file which always goes wherever the main file goes. All images (.jpg .bmp. tif, etc.) = /runtime/textures/[anyfolder] .cm2 (camera files) = /runtime/libraries/camera/[anyfolder] .cr2 (character files) = /runtime/libraries/character/[anyfolder] .fc2 (face files) = /runtime/libraries/face/[anyfolder] .hr2 (hair files) = /runtime/libraries/hair/[anyfolder] .hd2 (hand files) = /runtime/libraries/hand/[anyfolder] .lt2 (lighting) = /runtime/libraries/light/[anyfolder] .pz2 (poses) = /runtime/libraries/pose/[anyfolder] .pp2 (props) = /runtime/libraries/props/[anyfolder] in addition, files created with the ProPack will have .png files instead of .rsr. files. Both .png and .rsr files get placed wherever their identically named counterpart is placed. Sounds complex, but it isn't. You will have it memorized after your first few tries at it. You might even place a shortcut on your desktop to your /Poser/Runtime folder - because you will be going there a LOT! Hope this helps, Ronstuff
I am also a nubie who has done the same. I have bought Vicky, Michael, the kids this morning, downloaded tons of stuff and have not had sucess with anything yet (at least I'm having fun though!). Any help with MAP files would be appreciated. Thanks! Peggy

I forgot to mention this. One thing that I have started to do it to make my own readme file for things I download. I copy the picture so I know what it is suppose to look like, the link, and any other info I can think of. Of course, I have just started doing this, so I have lots of thing I have no idea of what they are... Peggy

I like most newbies out there got poser. Seen the small amount of clothing & ran out to sites like this, most not as good, & downloaded many many Poses, characters, objects, shirts & props. Now I'm in trouble because I have no idea where to load them in my files. I tried but failed with several. Soo I'm wondering if there is a good tutorial around that would help me out. I searched for some here, but couldn't really find one. Thanx
