Not possible unless the transparency is in the form of a Texture map. Is this the case?

no, Its is a shader, not a texture map, could you give me direction in making props with transparent areas? fleanbilly

Create a texture map that has the areas you want transparent painted all black. The rest should be white. Load it into the transparency map section in the Poser4 materials dialog and set the transparency slider to the percent you want. -JH.
