Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 22 2:19 pm)
heyas; you changed the reflection colour to white and that didn't help? the reflection colour tends to override the textures/colours in preview mode, so a black reflection colour tends to mess people up. if its the black hole kinda black holes, you might need to fix degenerate facets. that's the insert key in uvmapper, i think. (check the hot key list.) but i dont think the ambient colour changes the degenerat facet black holes. in fact, those usually only show up after you render. you might try just leaving it without double faces. even though you can't see the backs of the normals in the preview, they will render okay. sometimes double-facing seems to mess things up. otherwise, i dunno.
Thanks bloodsong. The problem isn't actual holes in the mesh - I'm pretty sure it's a lighting thing. I'll double check the reflection setting - I was pretty bushed the first time around. Right now Poser is tied up with an animation rendering project so I won't be able to reload the tube.obj until tomorrow.
The mystery remains mysterious. After finishing up the render I defrag'd the drives and rebooted. The darn tube.obj imported fine and everything works perfectly. I guess Poser needed to be re-opened to update the data files? ;) Is there a list somewhere of file-types that require a reboot to function? I've read Poser needs to rebuild .rsr files under some circumstances. Anybody collated the proper conditions?
hmmm. well, as long as it's working now, that's good. :) you need to delete the rsr every time you change the obj. since you cant delete geometry rsrs while poser is running (it locks them or something), you have to shut down poser to do that, then restart it. ive heard rumors that poser messes with rsrs (and sometimes messes them up!), but i'm not sure under what circumstances. somebody told me it had something to do with setting material transparencies, but that seems a bit far-fetched to me.

I guess it's my turn to enter the newbie lists... I imported a primitive tube .obj into Poser but it showed up as an arc when either end was visible (looking through the backs of far-side normals). So I ran the .obj through TwoFace4 and then through uvmapper. Returning to Poser the tube looks solid, takes textures, and is solid black. Without texture - object color, highlight & reflection do zip. Only ambient material settings make any difference. I looked through the posts for anyone with a similiar problem but didn't find anything. I know I solved this a couple months ago when I chopped the Poser ball prop in half and made a dome out of it. Darned if I remember how...the darn dome is just sitting in my props library smirking at me ;) What simple step did I leave out or screw up? Thanx...
