I am trying to make a few changes to a poser model. I would like to import an obj. file from the runtime directory into Ray Dream Studio. I only want to make changes to one body part, and then save the .obj file back into the runtime directory. I figure that would be the best way to make a change to a figure without creating a new figure. Would that not work? Seems like Poser would just read the new geometry of that part. I am not changing the vertexes at the edge of the part at all. I cannot make the changes I want by using a morph. I am adding vertices. Any advice from Poser/Ray Dream Studio users?

That should work. Depending on the version of the RDS OBJ file you may have to edit it a bit to make poser read it, as a line or two at the start may have to be commented out. The most serious problem that editing the obj in almost any 3d modeler causes is the loss of the materials. It either ignores them or turns them into some sort of random group. The FAQ on the right discusses this issue.

Ahh yes. My favorite pet peeve about Metacreations way of doing things. If you open an .obj file (weather it's from poser or elsewhere)RD will clobber the UV's. So while editing the mesh will certainly work for poser figures. You will need to run it through UVmapper and make a new tmap for it. Each and every goddamed time you make any changes to the figure in RD! Not good! Since making morph targets only deals with importing geometry changes from inside Poser. You don't have to worry about the UV's getting mangled. C'mon MC. get with it! this is unexceptable. Time to combine Carrara with Poser and put an end to this nonsense. -ScottA
