Why do you have to format c?Whats the reason? Never done it , only when changing motherboards! Try norton utilities if you can get them.solve most of hd-,win probs. And if you got everything working right, do backups!!!!!! I backup my HD on a second every 2 weeks( Norton Ghost) It takes about a half hour!!!

would it be possible to post this thread in the right forum. Here it's the Bryce Forum not the technical computer one. If you don't know how to used FDISK, don't use it. And if you were told that to reformat your C Drive there is a good chance your registry are pretty mess up. Doing a recovery with the CD is a good solution. But first it's always good to scan for virus, check with something like norton utilities like thgeisel said. PleiadesI think you were told to format the hard drive because the person just wanted to give you the easy way and not take a look at it. You can try things like RegClean from Microsoft (free) and see if that works....other than that you might want to explain your problems a little more to get a more precise answer. FDISK would in all essence format your hard drive but change or create hard drive partitions and sizes of them. I am a technician and do not take my computer to stores for help I do it all myself and never just say "format it". For the most part it's fixable....it's got to be completely unfixable to need to format it and thats after trying hundreds of different things. Format is the last resort and have not had to format my pc in years. I just transfer the harddrive's contents to new ones when I upgrade so basically it's the same software system that hasn't crashed to the point of being unfixable. I suggest you get a second opinion by taking it somewhere that will take the time to look at the problem. Until then don't erase it.

My computer is starting to act strange and I was told to reformat the C drive. I have a quick restore disk and cdrom that would return my computer to its original state. That would be Windows 95, I would have to reinstall the Windows 98 upgrade and then download all the patches and updates. Is there a better way? I was told to stay away from fdisk in DOS because I could really mess up the computer if I don't know waht I am doing. Thanks, Andres.
