Subject: Dina morphs in ZBrush?

Eowyn ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 3:15 PM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 4:04 AM

I just got my Dina... and I wanted to try to make some morphs for her right away. However, I get the "wrong amount of vertices"-error when I try to apply the morph to her head. I've made Michael morphs the same way, so I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Anyone have any idea?

Did you check the make morph target when exporting from poser?? Silly question I know but its the only thing I can think of. I see no reason they wouldn't work..

I did that, yeah... I think I did everything the same way I always did with Michael. But for some reason the morphs don't work. :/

I would try it but don't have Dina.. Kinda makes it a tad difficult... I honestly can't see why it won't work if you following the same procedure.. The principles should be the same..

Use the Uv-Mapper, than bring her in - could this help? Or check her in a other 3d-Programm (Anim8or?) just to look at her if something is wrong.

I don't have ZBrush, so I can only give a couple of general suggestions. One, if you're exporting directly from the figure, make sure you only export the head (and not the tongue, too). Also make sure the "Weld Bodypart Seams" checkbox is NOT checked. As an alternative, you could import Dina's .obj file into Poser, spawn props with the group tool, and export the head body part from there. Also, I don't know about ZBrush, but some 3D apps will triangulate meshes, which will ruin the morph for sure. It might be something to check anyway.

This is really strange. I can't get it to work no matter what. The only thing I have checked when I export the head is "as morph target". I'm not exporting the eyes or the tongue. I'm doing everything exactly the same way as I did with Mike and it just keeps giving me the "target geometry has the wrong amount of vertices" -error. I'm puzzled.

Did you try not checking "as morph target". I'm not really sure that will help, but it might be worth a try. There shouldn't be anything unusual about Dina's head, except that she has a lot of polygons.

Eowyn ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 6:06 PM

Hmmm.... I'll try that next :-)

Eowyn ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 6:16 PM

Still no... sigh I wonder what I'm doing wrong. Anyway, while we're talking about Dina, I would just like to say that I absolutely love the way I can bend her legs and arms without breaking the mesh... especially the knee joints are superb!

dcort ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 6:21 PM

I wish I could be more help but since I don't have ZBrush I can't try it myself. Do you have any other apps that can manipulate geometry? I was just thinking you could try making a morph with something else, even if it's just a garbage morph, just to test the process. That might tell you if it's a ZBrush problem or something else. I'm glad you like her knees and elbows. We spent a lot of time on those.

In zbrush you have to make a morph for each individual part of the body or head so take out the eyes just export the head do the morph and export from zbrush and apply morph it should work cheers dolly

It is a ZBrush problem, Amorphium works just fine... Too bad, I really like morphing with ZBrush. I will try to figure it out, now I'm dead tired and I think I'll give up for now... Her face isn't really that bad, actually. First I thought she's really ugly but... a bit of morphing, a bit of post work... and she does look nice. The image I've attached here does have post work, but still I made it in about 15 minutes so you can estimate how much post work was done :P

Marque ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 11:18 PM

Zbrush works fine with her, I don't know why you're having a problem, but it's not Zbrush. Are you sure you are only taking the head? Marque

Marque ( ) posted Sat, 13 October 2001 at 11:37 PM

Hummm, just did one and it worked fine. Wonder why it isn't working for you? How frustrating. Marque

Eowyn ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 4:55 AM

Marque, I think it's the version... You're probably using 1.23 and I've got 1.13. I need to upgrade...

Marque ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 7:05 AM

That's probably it, I think someone else had the same problem. The upgrade is free, go get it. 8^) Marque

Once happened to me using Judy in P5. The problem was in Poser when I clicked spawn props didnt spawn correctly. Before spawn the head make sure to click Remove all from the grouping tool and then make sure the head is separate from the eyes using the X dials. Other thing, when importing back to Poser to spawn the prop remember to check flip normals and the rest remains unchecked. Royuriel
