I thought I had posted this message last night when I uploaded the image I had been working on into the WIP gallery... but I guess I just previewed the message and never actually submitted it... ooops... well I was pretty tired...

The image attached is the same as the one I posted into the gallery... this is my first attempt at painting hair in post... it's not bad, but it's not great either... I'm pleased with it... I've already gotten a few good tips/pointers for the next go 'round, and anymore advice is greatly appreciated! :)

girls don't have sideburns... (aha, you ARE a guy!) and i would prefer seeing the hairline move forward and down - jmo - i guess you do get girls with receded airlines cos they pull their hair back so tight or they were just born that way (and all those victorian ladies who look like this?!?) but overall the colour variation seems nice. try it on a bigger piece next so we can see detail :)

See... told you I was a guy... ;) It was bigger to begin with... more than twice as big as it is now... but then you can see how crappy it is... so I cheated and made it smaller... I'm sneaky. I've got this base render saved all by itself... and I was really tired last night when I finished this, and I'm not sure if I even saved the one I was working on, so I think I'm going to have to start over from scratch... I may go back and re-render it even larger... I don't remember the exact dimensions, I do remember that it was 1600 pixels tall... I'll probably double that again, and then wait a while for it to save... grin After I get the hair closer to what I have in mind I want to try to do draped fabric around her... it's an image inspired by a painting... You're right though April, the hairline is way too high... I hadn't really noticed it until you pointed it out... and someone pointed out on the gallery image, I'm going to bring the hair down to cover her ear and part of her neck...

I agree with April. Hairline's a bit too high, and the pic is too small, lol. Ummm, I wrote a hair tut a few months ago. I'll save space and direct any hints/tips to that. But, looks like you've got a good start on things!

Those are sideburns? I thought they were short hairs. Some women have short hairs cut there as part of their style. A gal who used to work in my office had her hair cut that way. It looked like sideburns, but were actually just short hairs cut to look like it. In this image, they could be lengthened a little bit to make more of a little curl hanging in front of her ear.
