One of the things with modeling to me when I get that done I think I am about 1/3 done on my way to finishing the product. Here is a model of an IL-2 witn no textures.

the geometry s fine bu withouta good map or 2 or in the case I am showing close to 20 that is what gives it the real or stylized look.

true! great bump map in the wing! i really enjoy addin a lot of details in the model and a non textured model can kick ass, but i agree with u.

My problems with texturing is that I am subtle when it comes to detail. My refinished hydralisk for instance; while it has speculars, bumps and more than one color layer, actually it has 55 separate texture maps equalling 158 megs, people still cannot see the bump map unless you are up close. Like human skin, you don't notice it until you are close, now with my dropshop for instance, well yeah, you can see those bumps from miles away.

Wow 158 meg. There is about 25 meg worth of textures on the above pic. There are diffusion and specular maps as well. A reflection map for the window little bitl like that. But that is what it takes to get it to the next level. I still try for soem level of efficiancy. Not game graphics level but more so that I can get things rendered while I am young.

I have to throw efficiency out of the window for now as I am still learning texturing. Once I get it down, then I will work on making things more compact but for now, I still suck at texturing.

How did you manage the cockpit windows, anyway? Additional meshwork not shown in the first pic? Or a transmap?

LOL i was just posting for a friend in the gallery im showing him what textures doe what etc ive benn getting harased for never posting textures so i told him i would post them all but show each individually first to see what a diff each one combined makes thisis just my color map not much to it i still need to touch it up and add some color no bump nos spec etc etc

As far as the canopygoes. It is a combination of trans texture bump and reflectiveness maps. The bump map gives the illusion of the additional geometry.
