"What 3D Program Should I buy?" Not one person here can really tell you what's best for you, as everyone has their own taste in workflow. Try the demo or learning edition of the program you're interested in, this is the only way to find out which programs you like.
hmmm...I don't use poser, or max (often) for that matter, so in all practicality I shouldn't even post, but I have a few ideas of what could be going on. 1.Some of the objects may be hidden by default from max. 2.the model is just messed up. 3.portions of the model may be in NURBS 4.To be honest I don't have a clue...but I thought I'd give it a shot....
That's true lilkc. Sometimes people export with faces flipped and sometimes faces/polygons get flipped randomly during export. One of the many downfalls import and export. I'm not quite sure why this happens but I know that most software allows you to make doublesided during export or to flip faces. This is not uncommon and the comment about nurbs may also be true, however Lightwave will not allow you to export using subd. It must be turned off in order to export. It helps to know someting about modeling and polygonal manipulation. My tip for the day towards poser users.

Can SOMEONE explain... When I download "free" models and props on the web for use in Poser, I usually choose models in either ".obj" or ".3ds" format...in particular, I find that automobile models in ".3ds" format are QUITE Poser-friendly. BUT...they're NOT consistent. Many of the .3ds cars I import into Poser show up WONDERFULLY...they look good even before they're rendered, and I can apply different colours to the different materials. OTHER TIMES, however, they show up in my scene with parts missing, or one side cannot be seen until rendered...other times, the 3ds file indicates that there are several materials in the model, but they don't show up in the "Render Materials" window of Poser, so I can't apply colours...OCCASIONALLY, I attempt to import a .3ds file that brings my entire system crashing down. Why is this? P.S. I am a "Mac" user running Poser 4.0.3 on 466 Mhz Powerbook -- 192 MB Ram, OS 9.1
