I'm working on a 50's type pin-up and I've run into a problem. I'm hoping someone with a better knowlegde of lighting than me cam help me. There are two shadows, one on the side of the face, and one across the middle of the back. I've tried everthing I know of to get rid of them, but they're still there. There shouldn't be any shadows, all my lights have the cast shadow box unchecked. Any ideas?

Idea #1: It isn't painted on the texture itself, is it? Idea #2: Reflection map?

Look at each of your lights? See what happens if you turn off the cast shadows option on all but one.

I've run into this--varying light intensities (one set at 100%, one at 80, say, one at 75 or whatever) seem to cause this effect--it's more a matter if highlighting than shadow, I think. This figure appears to be backlit, too, from the right, with a very intense light. Looks like a less intense light from above, left, and another from low front, slightly left. You might try moving lights around a bit to get rid of the backlighting, and/or evening out the intensities. Hope this helps.

Pardon me for asking what might be an obvious question. Are you going to fix her elbow? It appears her arm was literally busted there.

Needs the heel fix morph also.

OOOPs that is one fix I know nothing about. Explanation, please?!

If I think that is who I think it is, back then they didn't do PIN UPS naked. Just a thought. And it does look great, I love the 50's . Sharen

To answer your question, you might try using spot lights instead of global lights to fix your problems. I find spot lights extremely helpful in situations where you want to light a very specific position of the body. Just create two more lights, double click on them to change them to spot lights and scale it down and position them to hit across the back and below the face. Hope that works. I like her hair.

HeelInFix on each foot. after this: interpStyleLocked 0 add this in: valueOpDeltaAdd Figure 1 lFoot:1 xrot deltaAddDelta 0.030000 (rFoot:1 for the right) and it will set automatically when you bend the foot (JCM) Of course you better pay attention to which is Figure 1 (cross-talk) But burning Figure 1 with a Null works. (it follows its own rotation in any case)

I had a theory that textures are not always neccessary. That the same effect could had with a MAT color file and lights. With my lack of artistic ability, textures are out of the question. Mosca: That makes sense, I never thought of highlights, I was looking for shadows. Ron: You ever sleep? The elbow will have to be fixed in post work. Vicky's arms are to thin, so I added a little "heavy" to the shoulder and forearm, that left a nasty cease at the elbow. Jaager: Cool tip, I'll definitely use it. visualkinetics: Your ideas on spot lights makes sense too. I'll have to try them out. The hair is from Bat Labs. Sharen: If you're thinking George Petty, you'll be right. I think that the 30's, 40's ,and 50's were the hight point in Pin-up art. Though nudes were rare, they were done. George Petty always painted using a nude model, and the clothes were painted in later in an earlier version of post work.

There is one chronic problem with Vicky (and Mike too I think.) It seems that some poses meant for the P4 characters don't work exactly right for Vicky and Mike. That is why there are poses made especially for Vicky and Mike, or people often need to tweak and fix things. I guess I do sleep. I'd been working days recently...but now.... well I may be staying up later for awhile.
