THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: tutorials for B5 to create twists, spirals and organic crescents

I would like to find a tutorial to create a spiral cylinders to use in set design and for ropes. Also I would like to create crescents that are completely curved and rounded with out using the terian editor. Is this possible to create the shapes I want with boolean objects?

Booleans would work for the crescents, if we're both thinking along the same lines, but you'll probably want to check out the Multi-Replicate feature for ropes, chains, and the like. The multi-replicate tool seems to have been designed with that pretty much in mind.

You may also want to look at a freeware program called spiralizer... It will create great spirals, an dit's very easy to create things like a nautilus, seashells, and just strange stuff... It's at http://www.armanisoft.ch/webdesign/default.htm While you're there, grab elefont too...

Wow! I checked that out. Thanks for the tip. Looks good. Hope it works better for me than Elefont has, though-- that's been hit-and-miss.

This is great! Here's what I did...

Thank you all! I will try it this weekend.

This was a Spiralizer spiral with a stone column "inserted" into it? Looks easy.

tradivoro ( ) posted Wed, 16 January 2002 at 1:30 AM

Yeah, spiralizer rocks... Great results with little effort.. Very nice pic...

One spiral, duplicated twice. The other two were slightly rotated in order to fill space and to add a second color.

You can also use 3D Studio Max if you have it. Creating two cylinders, grouping them and then stretch and twist. You have more control over the number of polygons by setting the number of sides for the cylinder which will give you your smoothness. Just my two cents.

Yeah, but howdy, spiralizer is completely and utterly free... 3D studio max is one of the biggest rip offs on the face of the planet... :)

I was only tryin' to help. Sorry for my input.

tradivoro ( ) posted Tue, 22 January 2002 at 1:20 AM

WEll, it wasn't meant that way howdy.. It's just that 3d studio max is a great program that is extremely overpriced and, of course, I'm sure it has features that would blow this away.. But this is just a little freeware program that can do some clever things... :)

Once again, I am sorry again. :(
